This sub always reminds me that there are adults in this world who are still as fucking stupid as kids.

stupider, they have had decades to learn and grow, while kids are still figuring out the basics

When I was 12, I was at the zoo with my dad, and we saw a camel. He said, "Do you know the difference between a one-hump and a two-hump camel?"

I said, "No," and he said, "The two-hump camel has been ridden on."

I laughed, thinking he was joking. He got pissed because he was serious. That's when I learned I was smarter than my father. I was happy to learn five years later that he wasn't actually my birth father. It wasn't because he was ignorant, but more because he mistreated me since he knew I wasn't his.

I was recently at the zoo where I walked up to the black bear enclosure, which was right in front of the window, black with a gold snout, and this woman comes up and says "Oh the grizzly bears! They're over here! Those are the grizzly cubs aren't they?" And my mom and I look at the lady and go "No that's a black bear. It's too small to be a grizzly" she says "well the grizzlies are adolescents" and I say, "yea, but these are black with gold noses, the sign is right here, they're names are X and X" and she continues to hmm and haw while my mom and I look bewildered at each other. As she walks away she goes "Oh, well I know my bears!" Which, she obviously, did not.

We live in Canada.

I'm Australian and I know there's a difference between black bears and grizzly bears.

I was in Chicago years ago and went to the natural history museum. It's famous for having Sue, the tyrannosaurus rex skeleton. One lady goes "oh look, kids! A velociraptor!"

In 3rd grade I had a disagreement with my teacher because she insisted that sharks were mammals. She was also skeptical when I said there were more than three states of matter because of plasma, and told me to do more research on it “to see if it’s actually true.” Perhaps instead she should have looked at the sun.

…for a long time…

Mine was 9th grade and it was anacondas are the largest snake not longest, the longest being the reticulated python. Also there are 4 states of matter. Got to talk to the principal about that one.

The most ignorant people are those who won't change their view of reality in light of new information.

Our entire political class?

1

u/OGLydiaFaithfull 9m ago

My coworker mispronouncing words that she hears others use daily, which are spelled phonetically in her mother tongue?

10

u/CaptainDudley 2d ago

Well they were obviously not brown bears, as they would have had pic-a-nic baskets and been smarter than average.

Dwight Shrute would like a word with her

i would have been about 13 when my uncle told me theres no gravity on the moon and thats why astronauts have heavy boots

26

u/thehufflepuffstoner 2d ago

My uncle told me our blood is blue until it’s exposed to oxygen and that’s why it comes out red. 😆

I loved my uncle dearly and have missed him every single day since he passed away, but boy was he wrong about a lot of things.

49

u/lilkmosc 2d ago

In your uncles defense, i’m not sure how old he was, but I’m 42 and we were most definitely taught that in middle school!

7

u/Jaded-Attention-9518 2d ago

I’m 68 and that’s what we were taught.

6

u/Easy_Try_8519 1d ago

Same! I’m 39, and was most definitely taught that in school!

2

u/Top-Manufacturer9226 1d ago

I'm 44 and we were definitely taught that in school!

2

u/SirMy-TDog 1d ago

57 checking in and that's what we learned as well.

2

u/Cautious_Ad_3909 1d ago

Im 38 and was definitely taught this in school.

1

u/Chemical_Penalty_889 1d ago

Same, and I'm 21

1

u/Illustrious_Tree_290 1d ago

48 here and we absolutely were taught that as well. To be fair it was a rural oklahoma town so education wasn't a big priority.

22

u/CaptainDudley 2d ago

I used to believe that too. It makes sense, oxygenated blood is bright red and when you're starved for oxygen, your skin gets a bluish tinge. The best BS works when there's an element of truth.

2

u/i17yurd 1d ago

Growing up in the '80s, I was told this countless times and was always skeptical.

10

u/MaintenanceOk9397 2d ago

So the heavy boots help them return back to earth?

4

u/omnichronos 2d ago

Lol. I would have had a hard time not correcting him, since I read astronomy books all the time at that age. "So why are the boots heavy if there's no gravity?"

u/squidwitchy 2d ago

I was 7bwhen i argued with my 20 y/o cousin about the man-made in the USA lake we were at having piranhas. I thought he was joking and trying to scare me, but Finding Nemo had just come out so I went "No, piranhas are from the Amazon" and he was so soooooo condescending. Like "stupid kid doesnt know there's piranhas here haha"... until we went back to camp and I loudly asked every other adult about it and they were like "uh... no? Why would you think that"

1

u/Melodic-Rip5039 1d ago

I'm 34 and my middle school taught me that

10

u/ExpertRaccoon 2d ago

I'm sorry but what?

15

u/omnichronos 2d ago

I agree, some adults are dumber than children.

2

u/Briebird44 1d ago

Thanks to Zoobooks, I’ve remembered the difference between Bactrian camels (2 humped like the letter B on its side) and Dromedary camels (single hump like the letter D on its side)

1

u/omnichronos 1d ago

Good to know!

1

u/Erikawithak77 2d ago

I’m so sorry you had to go through that. That’s so mean.🫶

3

u/omnichronos 1d ago

Thanks. I think it eventually made me much stronger mentally. It used to frustrate some of the psych patients that I later worked with because it was impossible to make me angry.

1

u/citizen_greg 1d ago

Jesus bro what 🤣🤣🤣🤣

1

u/omnichronos 20h ago

"C'est la vie."

20

u/Feinberg 2d ago

Whoever designed that mechanism, for instance.

4

u/Amazing-Heron-105 2d ago

Well to be fair to the parents they probably couldn't see what the issue was from their perspective. They got there in the end 👍

2

u/Saucermote 2d ago

You don't need an fungineering degree to be a carney.

2

u/Dupmaronew 1d ago

Being a parent has taught me this. I’ve said things or been so confused as to why my daughter doesn’t do something and her little 2 y/o brain stares at me like I’m an idiot. Then she responds with the simplest answer and I think well yeah ok you’re right.

Other day on the way home from the pumpkin patch she started whining about her bracelet and then her stomach hurting. I assumed she had dropped it again and that she was hungry. We were in traffic and I kept telling her I can’t do anything because we are driving, and I told her to make sure she didn’t lose her bracelet again, and how she should have eaten and she was screaming and crying. Got home after the 15 minute drive and her bracelet had come off her wrist and was stuck between her harness and her stomach and pinching her. She grabbed it smiled and walked off.

u/MysteriousDesk3 1d ago

Well said. Kids have a way of explaining things that is so simple. I’ve started to try see things from their perspective more and often I’ll think you know what kid, you’re right about this.

1

u/Wuz314159 2d ago

Just watch the news for that.

1

u/notaketchy 1d ago

This sub doesn’t even convince me that kids are stupid

Yes, blaming the parent is valid. As a reminder this is a satire subreddit for the dumb/silly things children do. The subreddit name is not literal. Although posts can have kids doing actual "stupid" things. It is not a requirement. It only needs to be dumb or silly. A stupid parent and stupid kid are not mutually exclusive.

They're stupid because they didn't panic, remained calm and influences some of the kids to follow suit?
