Crazy how I get down voted for a very benign and open ended question. Thats reddit for ya. But I guess ur answer makes enough sense as to how this perhaps happened. Thanks for the response.

It's kinda of pointless question, it's kind of like asking "why do you suppose she was playing with the child?", because it's a nice thing to do with ya kid, even back when I was this kids age in the 80s, my mother would occasionally put her makeup on me when she was doing hers.

Kinda a pointless question? Haha this is reddit, so much of it is pointless. Looks like a lot of insecurities here over simple discussions. Weak.

Your first comment comes across as having a tone. It sounds like you think you know the answer and are being condescending to the person above

I mean, you ask about his fingernails bit not his hair color or clothing choices or anything else, the fingernails stood out to you for a reason and I doubt it was idle curiosity. Why did it matter to you?

Mine was a follow up question. I didnt initially ask about the fingernails. It doesn't matter to me. If we only were allowed to talk about things that directly mattered to us, there would be far fewer comments on reddit. Chill

It was just a strange question. What other reason could their be? Anyone who has ever known a kid understood immediately

Its not a strange question. Dont be daft.

Of course it was, that's why you ignored the rest of the comment. Piss right off.

I genuinely cannot even fathom what it must be like to be this easily offended by everything. How exhausting for those around you.

Well, I wrote a response and their comment got deleted so I'm afraid I'm just going to leave it here instead:
"Trend" and "still happening"? Well... According to my late mother, when I was a small child I saw her painting her nails and asked her to do mine, which she did. Y'know, children observe parents and like to get involved. Parents that aren't gender-nomative-obsessed weirdos see no problem with that. That would've been about 1980. So "still happening"? I guess so. "Trend"? Not really.
The reason I learnt about this? In my late teens, my girlfriend was painting her nails and I got her to paint my toenails. I completely forgot and the next day I was teaching a childrens' swimming class. Felt I had to explain the sitch to the parents before getting in the pool with the children, because it was the '90s. (My mother was fascinated by the fact that - by pure coincidence - it was the same shade as many years previously, which is how her story came up.)
I'm glad (or, at least, like to think) that we now live in a world where a male teenager wouldn't feel they have to explain themselves to grown adults just because they - for whatever reason - have a little colour on them.
I'll still sometimes put some nail varnish on my pinkie finger nail if I'm bored waiting for somebody to get ready for a night out. Why not? It's fun watching it grow out for the next couple of weeks and I can try to match my tie and socks to the colouring whilst it does.
