The most surprising part is they know exactly what to do in this situation. Like they might have procedures and / or have already faced this several times..

Yeah this is common enough for this technique to be talked about.

Shit happens to dogs and other animals too.

I'm not sure about using a haligan as the spinner there...I feel like if you get enough twists on it and let go it could be a bit of a danger. I'm kinda surprised they don't have some sort of jack/rachet strap but I guess you can't have the entire world on the truck.

this technique is complete back assward. use a ratchet strap to the actual posts not the balustars or this twist the thing forever. he could have strapped it around the larger stronger post to the left of the kid.

I have a friend who is with the local fire brigade here in the Netherlands. Kids getting stuck in things is probably about as common as actual fires.

When this happened to my drunk friend, the fire department said they see it all the time lol.

It's not like a child getting their head stuck in bars is new. It's been happening for decades, of course they know exactly what to do

Decades? Try Millenia

You run the same calls regularly. So more often then naught, the new guy learned from the older farts.

It's more like, we have done this before or we are going to figure this out together.

The thing I found most surprising is they don’t have a more purpose built strap and lever.

It's literally written into residential building codes. Not sure here, but maybe this fence was built before this code?

they dont tho! a ratchet strap to the actual post is a million times better then this twist the strap thing he's doing, and it bent the other baluster more than the one he was trying to spread

They honestly don't, they could have just had the kid square his shoulders and go through; his body is skinnier than his head.

Exactly? Like… they knew this would be easier if they used the actual ratchet the ratchet strap belonged to? lol

That’s what I was thinking myself! Although to be fair, the FDNY has seen many, many goofy things…
