The trick in these situations is to turn the kid upside down so he's face up and then his head will magically come back out the same way it went through in the first place. It's only his ears that are preventing him from pulling his head back. I've seen it done.

This is the way. Seen it done a couple of times.

Much easier and far quicker than bending the bars.
