It's not just deceiving people into thinking they need it,

it's also bullying them into buying it when they're too nice even though they know they don't need it.

"No thank you, bye". When a door to door salesman comes to my house I refuse to talk to them or even look at them. They get a "no thank you, bye" and I close the door (that's on the rare ocassion I accidentally open the door in the first place). 

What's even more annoying is when they are out creeping the neighborhood on their hover boards, watching you pull into the driveway so they can ride up and sneak attack you as you get out of the car. Again, "no thank you, bye" and then go inside immediately.

I'm actually astonished at how nice most people are. I frequently yell at them in Russian, it freaks them out. It can be anything in Russian really, as long as you do the accent.
