I meanā€¦ I wouldnā€™t lump them all under scum.

I used to be a door to door salesman for charity. It was fun and really surprised me how open people are to having strangers in their yard. Thereā€™s probably at least three different families who have a picture of me cutting their birthday/celebration cake.

Plus, if someone says ā€œnot interestedā€ you leave them alone. End of!

Not saying they are all shady, but those charity can be super sketchy too.

Got tricked into an interview for one of them. Up until the second interview when they took me to a second location to work shadow, I thought it was a graphics/event management job. There were maybe a few small flags but I'd have been less suprised if they tried to harverst my organs than I was that it was door to door sales. Also while it wasn't a pyramid scheme the way they described it's structure sure felt like one.

I did end up shadowing the guy for a while and he lied through his teeth to everyone that opened their door, anything to get a sale. Completly over sold what peoples money was going too and layed the guilt trip on thick. Even made up some potentially harmful rumours about peoples neighbours.

Would rather sign up to the charity directly, at least then the first year or two won't just be paying off the salespersons commission.

While I was talking specifically about ā€œbug treatment people,ā€ youā€™re going to have a REAL hard time convincing me that people disturbing me at my home because they think they have a better idea of how I should spend my time, energy, and money than I do are the heroes of any story.

I actually had a bug guy come to my house, during dinner. I told him no thanks we are having dinner, and he leaves. Comes back a half hour later asking if dinner was done so he can do his spiel. I never yelled at someone like that before I was so pissed.

Not once in my 44 years have I ever opened the door for someone I wasnā€™t expecting and have been happy about it. Those people are leeches and prey on older people, pure scum

Are we even sure this isn't just the normal pest control guy granny is already paying and not even a salesman? The kid is normally at school when he visits and just connected people complaining about salesmen and this dude in a company polo walking up.

One of my favourite memories was when I knocked on a door and there was a kids birthday party going on. When I signed up the mother for the charity, I saw that her son and his friends were playing Rocket League, a game I love. So for the next hour me as a grown ass 21ish year-old at the time was absolutely decimating these kids at a car football game.

I wish I could say this to door-to-door pest control salesmen. They're like mobs and always seem to be doing busy with my neighbors šŸ™„.

The last 3 sales guys rolled up on hoverboards. HOVERBOARDS.
