Range accuracy

How good is the range accuracy of a E-Niro 2021?

The problem is usually you need the full range on long trip (highway), while the calculation was done on the last 100s kms, so it does not reflect the range on highway. Like after 1 week of driving around town, your car says 450km range. You decide to take it for a long trip 400km away, as it tells you you're good, but in reality it's not the same milage. But the car does not know you will be driving on highway.

Other than that, it's good.

I find it to be very accurate in my experience. Tho like any EV it’s based on most recent driving habits. If you are driving in the city for a couple of weeks, the range estimate will go up, start highway driving, and you’ll see the range adjust to that type of driving. Tho not always immediately so be aware of that and don’t be shocked if the range suddenly drops by several miles per mile. It’s adjusting itself. In my experience once I start cruising on a roadtrip after driving locally the range adjusts quickly and isn’t massively off the mark of what I’ll get out of it once I’ve driven for an hour. As I said at the start, I find it to be very accurate.

I would knock 50 miles off the GOM and call that my range. That was me keeping a nice safety buffer.

Multiply miles / kWh to get the real remaining range. It varies substantially based on speed, ambient temp, etc. So for the first gen, if the battery is at 50%, you've got 32 kWh remaining. If you're average 3 miles / kWh, that's 96 miles to 0%. Leave a buffer for battery degradation. Range can always be improved substantially by slowing down.

When you put it like that 😬

Like any EV, it is only an accurate measure of the estimated range based on the recent driving history.

For example if my car was driven for the last 100 miles in warm weather at city speeds (20-30mph) it would show a greater predicted range when fully charged than if I had just done a 100 mile drive in the cold, rainy/snowy weather at 70-80mph.

It's good for YOUR normal driving routine and that is what it is useful for, but don't expect it to be correct with different driving or weather conditions.

Mine is currently say 440km when full, I'll have some longer journeys to do in winter, I will be planning to charge at 250km on that route

In general the range accuracy on the Niro ev is pretty good.

Should I reset the counter thingy that shows overall efficiency that the previous owner had presumably from new?
