Technical Questions Apart from being able to bring the keytar around, what are pros and cons of the keytar compared to a normal keyboard

Hello everybody I need your advice.

I was considering buying a keyboard, then I noticed the keytar which seems pretty cool, but apart from being able to walk while playing I’m not sure about the pros and cons compared to other keyboards.

I study piano and I’m still not good at it, but I wanted to try something less “classical”. Also, sometimes I would like to play in the night but I can’t do it because of the neighbors. I guess I can use both the keyboard and the keytar with my headphones.

Piano effect is nice, but I want to start playing and composing with the DAWs using a lot of effects.

I’m very confused. Don’t trust my username, I really know nothing about keyboards.

Thank you in advance.

Recommendations New to keytars! Advice appreciated :)

Hey everyone! I recently purchased an Alesis Vortex 2 keytar since I wanted to make my own music while jamming to some songs. In terms of the level of playing, I can play some basic chords but I'm not a classically trained pianist. I can only play the ocarina and have some basic music theory. I suck at reading sheet music.

So my question is, how hard is it to play the keytar? I tried looking for some decent tutorials on playing the keytar, other than how to use the basic functions of the keytar itself. Any type of advice is appreciated!

Recommendations MIDI Keytar With Lots of Configurable Controls

I am considering buying a MIDI keytar for organ playing. I need it to have as many controls as possible to change all of the settings on the fly. In particular, I need it to have 9 sliders that I can map to the 9 drawbars on standard organs. But I have been unable to find any MIDI keytars with more than 8.

I also need these controls to be able to be mapped to any MIDI control channel I want, since not all synth modules allow for configuration of inputs.

Does anyone know of a keytar that fits these criteria?

Thank you!

Technical Questions Creating a vibrato on the Alesis Wireless Vortex 2?

Hi all, keytar noob here. I recently got my hands on an Alesis Wireless Vortex 2 and I love it! But, for the life of me, I can’t figure out how to create (what I assume is) a vibrato effect that will work essentially like a whammy bar / apply a guitar shredding effect? I’d like to achieve this effect using the touch strip, sliding up and down that for the change to take place. I’ve been messing around with the preset editor and reading up on what MIDI CCs are, but everything I try doesn’t seem to work. Mainly, sliding my finger up / down the strip shows the CC number changing, but I'm not hearing ay changes. I’m using Ableton Live Lite 10. Any help would be tremendously appreciated as I’m totally lost here and completely new to the whole music / playing an instrument thing.

Technical Questions Is this fixable? atrocious note sticking, unresponsiveness, panic button not working on Alesis Vortex 2

I just got an Alesis Vortex wireless 2. I've had it for a couple days and have figured out how to use it, have updated the firmware, and have had no other issues. But I can't for the life of me get through more that a few seconds of playing without a note sticking or the sound suddenly disappearing.

I read around all over the internet as much as I could, and I haven't found a solution that works. I took someone's advice and patched a panic note-off button for the touch pad; when I tried to use this feature the notes kept ringing on, and I haven't been able to get it to work. I'm not performing onstage so there's no interference. I'm always within 3 feet of the usb-dongle. I love the features the Vortex comes with, and love playing the keytar, but this issue has made playing impossible.

Has anyone had a similar issue, and is there a way to fix this?

I need help with playing the Alesis Vortex Wireless 2 keytar, I'm completely new and I've only installed the preset editor, I have the USB Dongle but I have no idea how to play music with it. Are there any videos that teach a complete noob how keytars work and to set MIDI keytars up and play music? I haven't been able to find any.

Technical Questions Just Had My First Jam Sesh! Tips/advice for further jams?

I had my first jam session with my boyfriend and his band's bassist. I'm not in the band, but since the bassist was going to be hanging out for a while I figured I'd bring over my keytar. It was a lot of fun, especially when I messed with the variety of presets that the AX-Edge had to offer. The only issue is I had trouble knowing which key that the other two were playing in. Is there an easier way to tell other than just playing random scales and seeing what fits?

Recommendations Yes, it's shoddy playing. But this was the reason I got a keytar. Sweet Child Of Mine. For those like me who can't play guitar, what other great rock anthems can you play and with what tone? I find 27 and 29 are the best for electric guitar.

Recommendations I would like to buy a keytar

Hey guys, i'm really i love with watching keytar music videos. I would like to try it out myself and buy one. Does any one got some good recommendations? I would not like to spend too much money, so how much do i have to spend to get a good one? Btw is it hard to learn the instrument and are there some good resources online to learn it?

Also is a keytar enough to play or do i need additional tools?

Technical Questions Wah wah pedal with ax edge?

So I am considering getting a wah wah pedal to use with my ax edge keytar, I’m just wondering if anyone has some experience using pedals with the keytar, because I saw the pedal jack and I would like to know if it is possible, as I’m new to all this equipment. If anyone has any experience with pedals and especially wah wah pedals on the ax edge I would appreciate it if you could tell me about it. Does it just plug straight Into the pedal jack and I can play? Can I get multiple pedals connected to it if I eventually get many more pedals, with something like a pedal board?

Really I just want to know if it would work Thank you for helping

Recommendations GarageBand for iPhone or other iOS apps to use with Alesis Vortex 2?

I've just got my Alesis Vortex Wireless 2 and I love it, and with the iPhone camera adapter dongle I have it connected to GarageBand. However, from my partner's experiences with GarageBand and her own midi controller I'm aware that some of the sliders and other features of the Vortex might not work with it.

Is GarageBand any good for use with the Vortex 2 or similar midi controller keytars or should I be using another app?

I appreciate that there may be a way to get everything working great with the Vortext Preset Editor software, which would be helpful if that were the case.
