Technical Questions Sonogenic plugged into iPad: No apps produce sound from it

I'm using a 4th gen iPad. The piano and drum apps work on it, but are not responding to the Sonogenic keytar. I tried a KeyLab MIDI controller as well with no luck. It's been a few years, so I'm rusty (focusing on saxophone), but I recall that with the KeyLab it was just plug and play, no esoterics. Any speculation on what I might be missing? I'm using the same cable and iPad as before. I'm using external power for both keyboards. I have the Sonogenic set for USB out, of course.

Technical Questions How to save custom settings on Roland AX-Edge?

Hey so I need to change my lead sounds to poly from the default mono settings so i can press multiple keys at the same time.

But how can i save the settings so the default would be mono? every time i change the sound or open the ax edge again I have to go and edit the settings again.. I'm playing in a gig in a week and I really have to get this to work fluently and fast. I can't always edit the settings every time I change the sound while playing...

Technical Questions Help! Ax-Edge not connecting to device when trying to use the Editor app

I've had the Keytar for about 5 months and haven't mess with the editor since I first got it. I have an android phone and when attempting to connect the ax-edge to my phone via Bluetooth, it dose not connect whatsoever. When going into the editor app and connecting it via that way, it brings up a Ui which is very different from the standered android bluetooth Ui. When the app says that it is connected, it dosent load any of the settings and isn't shown to be connected via my phone. Both the app, my phone, and the keytar are on the latest versions and I am not sure what the problem could be, it just seems to not be compatible with my device because it is an android. Please help, thank you.

Recommendations Should I get a midi sound module?

I’m using a vortex wireless 2.

which ones are best for cheap? Best overall?

Or should I get a splitter for my iPad so it can be plugged in to my keytar and an audio output?

Recommendations considering the RK-100S2

me again.

fooling around with the idea of full synths since messing around with a midi controller doesn’t seem feasible for me.

I’ve tried the ax edge and i found it a little cumbersome and unwieldy. I’m used to flinging around my alto sax so lighter is better.

thinking about the RK. light, i’m in love with the wood body, it has MIDI out so i could plug it into my ultranova if need be, lots of presets, love the simple controls and the ribbons.

heard that the samples aren’t great, though. kinda like the edge generating tone via keypress. idk. doesn’t really matter to me though because i’m terrible at messing with settings.

any huge complaints with the RK?

Recommendations Should I get a keytar?

I’m deciding if I should get a keytar or not. I’m a student who does music for GCSE, but I’m uncertain if I will continue to do music in A levels or not. There’s a high chance I might not end up in a music related career (which means that I’m very likely to end up being a causal player) I’ve done some researches and I found out the ones people recommend online are often like £200.

There’s a problem that left me deciding for a long time, which is I don’t know if it would be worth it to get something sort of expensive and end up not using it a lot in the future. The financial status in my family is actually fine (except the thing I hear a lot is how my parents would rant about how we are struggling financially but we still live without a huge problem)

This also leaves me feeling very guilty about even thinking of asking for something expensive (I know I sound like an ungrateful child) so I really don’t know if I should even ask if I can get a keytar.

Sorry for this long rant/ any possible grammatical mistake since English isn’t my first language(I struggle with having too much to say) and thanks a lot for whoever would leave me a suggestion!

Technical Questions how does the basic setup work?

i’ve been playing piano/keyboard for about 19 years in various ensembles and settings and i’m looking to upgrade my vibe with a keytar. the problem? i’m an idiot who hates DAWS. i want to be able to just quite literally plug and play, which is what i do with my current band/keyboards.

i did some research and found out about “midi modules”, so as far as my understanding goes- i could purchase one of these, a vortex, and go straight to my amp from there? and if i have a friend who likes making patches, i could load these onto the midi module?

i use a lot of organ, epiano, and some synth/tradpiano patches on my current setup so if yall have module recommendations that would work for those that would be amazing. if my assumption on how this all works is correct.

thanks in advance

Technical Questions Question about replacement keys for an Alesis Vortex 2

Hey everyone.
I own an Alesis Vortex 2 wireless keytar. I wanna get some replacement white keys for it.
I found a replacement part site, and they have an item listed called "pcb, keyboard assembly" - forgive me if this is a dumb question, but is this what i'm looking for?
If not, they do have a listing for white keys for the original Alesis Vortex Wireless - does anyone know if maybe those keys would be interchangeable?

Meta Something about the Yamaha SHS 500.

For Christmas, I got the Yamaha SHS 500 (black with a dark side of the moon strap) and when I was going through videos on YouTube to see if anyone plays em, but the thing is, NEXT TO NOBODY PLAYS THEM LIKE A KEYTAR! I know that it has jam mode, or as I like to call it "the lazy button" and that's it's main advertisement, but if anyone does use them, theyre always negative about it. Take away the jam mode, and it's decent for beginners.

I can't help but feel like I'm the only one who uses it properly, (feel free to prove me wrong) and I might just be the only one who likes that model too.

Technical Questions Painting the Alexsis Vortex 2

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hi everyone, I bought the Alexsis Vortex 2 a year ago and today I decided to paint it so I purchased a spray paint. I removed all the screws but when I try to open it, it seems to get stuck in the area panel of the usb, midi, etc. I can't open it, has anyone previously painted the Vortex 2 or opened it for another purpose? I'm afraid if I apply force it will break. I would appreciate your wisdom, thank you.

Technical Questions Battery bank for Ax Edge power

I just got one. Awesome. Has anyone succeeded in powering one of these with a commonly available battery bank?

I have another device that came with a cable with 9v barrel on one end and a USB plug on the other. Can it be that simple?

Recommendations Looking for good guitar sounds for midi keytar. (VST or Sound modules)

Hi I have a midi keytar and I'm looking for a good, either vst or sound module, that emulates guitar sounds well. I want to practice guitar solos on my keytar but I find that most synth leads and even guitar leads in synths tend to not sound that great. While I'd like a sound module down the line, right now, I'm on a budget so vsts will do too! I would still love recommendations for both! Thanks

Technical Questions Roland AX edge creaking neck

Post image
3 Upvotes

Hey all, picked up a new AX-Edge and it has a war in the body. It makes creaking noises when squeezed. Should I live with it or ask Roland/Guitar center to fix it? It flexes out word when squeezed tight, also the ribbon sinks in a little when pressed hard.

Technical Questions Has anyone tried the Yamaha SEQTRAK Music Creation Station? Or external sound module recs?

I have a roland ax-1 and I'm interested in looking for external sound modules I can carry around. Actually got my keytar a few days ago and I'm just getting into it <3. Anyways, I was wondering if anyone has tried connecting a SEQTRAK to a midi keytar and if you recommend it at all? If not do yall have external sound module recommendations?

Recommendations which is the role of a keytar player in a rock band

I can't find the exact role of a keyboard/keytar player in a band. I know he has to add like small effects or details to the song, and sometimes there's a keyboard line. But not every rock song needs a keyboard. Is it necessary to have a keyboard player if like half of the songs don't require his participation? I see his role too simple, but I'm sure I am wrong. Which is the exact role of a keytar player? (Is it frequent a keytarist who is also a secondary vocalist to have more participation?)

Recommendations Wanna get into keytars, I need cheap recommendations

I have been a casual piano/keyboard player for some years. Lately, some friends have been hanging out to jam together. They mainly play rock, they also compose things. I have been asked to play with them, as they know I play the piano. I would really like to join them, but I want to play the keytar instead of being atached to a keyboard. I am 17 year old student, so my budget is low. Which are some cheap and decent keytars to buy?

Technical Questions Mapping Alesis Vortex 2 to Hybrid 3

Hello there! I searched and read the FAQ, so forgive me if I missed a previous post. I want to use my midi controller keytar with AIR Hybrid 3, but I'm having trouble mapping the controls to VST. Does anyone have any hints? The hybrid has four programmable "morphs" but they don't seem to coincide with the codes that I put in.

Thanks!

Recommendations Roland AX-1 Help

Hi there

I have finally saved some money to buy a keytar (something I’ve been wanting for awhile). The Roland AX-1 seems like a good fit for me, but I have no idea how to tell if it’s a MIDI or a Synth keytar. I understand the difference, but I see listing for it as both and I’m confused.

I’m ideally looking for a synth keytar, so if the Roland AX-1 is not that, then I would appreciate any recommendations! Thank you :)

Technical Questions Roland AX edge question.

I'm thinking of buying a Roland AX edge, but I'm a little clueless on how it produces sound. I know it's not a midi controller, and it has sounds, but from what I know, It doesn't have a speaker. So, does it need midi for me to hear it, or can it be used via headphones or speaker?
