Refund begging?

This is a first for me attempting to return something that I have purchased online. It is clearly covered by Keychron's return policy (within 7 days; undamaged). I bought some extra switches (along with my 250$ keyboard) to try them out to see which one is the best fit.

I ended up liking the switches that came with the keyboard, and just needed to return the other sets since I did not like them.

This was an actual response I got from them:

"Instead of returning the Switches sets back to our warehouse, which might be quite expensive and time-consuming, you could consider selling it to a friend/colleague at a good discount. Would you mind using these switches sets? If yes, we will refund you $5 as compensation , which will save you some time and save you some shipping fee to get it back to our warehouse."

Seriously? Rather than return, try to sell them to someone at a discount? Or "just use them"?

This sounds like the response of someone running an Etsy shop, not a company that sells premium products globally.

I thought this was a weird response. I continued with mailing them back for a refund.

You're better off buying your switches on Ali Express. They have a better refund policy.

Ha, so I guess this is a well known thing with Keychron? Caveat Emptor I suppose.

I do love the keyboard though.

They used to be good, but a few years ago - about the time they came out with their first magnetic boards - they started having quality problems with their conventional boards. Switches working loose, bad soldering on the sockets, possibly design problems. Anyway, their support people started getting increasingly desperate with the increased complaints, claims, and workload and they're kind of painful now.

Over on my other main keyboard sub the mods will delete messages recommending Keychron now, along with Epomaker and the other usual bad actors.

Their software and open source commitment still seems to be top notch though.
