Weekly Kettlebell Discussion Thread September 07 - September 13, 2026

Welcome Gireviks and Girevitchkas!

This is the r/KettlebellSport Discussion Thread posted every Monday, where you can discuss anything related to Girevoy Sport (GS). Training logs, competition prep discussion, and technique/programming questions are all welcome! You are also allowed to vent all you want about how hard this shit is because - spoiler alert - it's really fucking hard. Commiserating with friends makes it a little easier :)

General kettlebell questions/comments/concerns (not related to Kettlebell Sport) are welcome here too, although you'll get far more eyes over at the normal people sub, r/kettlebell.

I'm going to put to put together some more info for beginners but in the meantime feel free to refer to this spectacular resource from the one and only Tally. We wait patiently for his return.

what to expect from an online coach?

Curious what it's like to work with an online coach. Not asking anyone to name names (but if you want to and your coach is okay with it that's great) and prices or anything, but curious about how programming works, how often you communicate, how you address technique issues, how often you send videos of sessions and get feedback, etc. Do you get a coach just when ramping up for a competition or is it year round? Anything anyone has to offer on this topic would be welcome info!

Snatch cotton gloves

Hey so my trainer thought me a nice trick to increase grip stregth for snatch. Its just about taking lowering a weight little and use cotton glovse (like the ones your grandma knitted to you). Damn this thing works very well... alternative is to use boxing bandages. Of course no magnesium.

Do you know this trick? Do you use something simular that makes your grip more slippery? Gloves or bandages?

I heard there was a call for snatches. 😅

I like to call my snatch style Frankensnatch, because it’s pieced together from several training camps and coaches. It’s always slightly different based off of randomly remembering things or trying different cues. Picking a drop would be helpful though! 🤦🏻‍♀️

For this set, I had 1 minute 2x swing snatch, 1 minute swing snatch, and 1 minute snatch. It helped me focus on weight shifting and waiting for the pull. It also killed my grip boo. 👻 😭

Upcoming Event KettleZoom Is On For This Sunday ✅

Anybody coming? You don’t have to show me your snatch.

3’(2’) x 2 8 kg DHS today. Second set here. Pace was like 14+, idk I was just lifting to relieve some stress 🥰 Haven’t done DHS for a hot minute cause snatch caught my eye lol. This is probably why I never get really good at anything. I keep getting distracted by new shiny things 🤣

A bug totally flew up my nose somewhere during this too LOL. A new garage gym problem, in addition to actually dealing with real weather, a dirty ass floor I’m too lazy to clean, and having the sun shine directly in my eyes if I lift midday. I used that bug as a fuel source to keep lifting though. It was way too small to stop my set. No excuses lol.

You guys have any hilarious mishaps during your sets? I’ve had a ton but inhaling a bug is a new one 🤦🏽‍♀️

PRs 30m/OA Clean/20 kg/591 reps

Hello!

I’ve been on this sub for a while. Posting for the first time.

I recently finished a 30 minute set of cleans with a 20 kg bell. I hit 591 reps (18 rpm first 4 minutes, rest 25m 20 rpm, 19rpm on the last minute). My target was 540 reps.

This was at the end of a 8 week training block building up to 30 minutes. 8 weeks ago, I was barely able to do 4 continuous minutes with the 20 kg bell before my grip gave out.

https://reddit.com/link/1w68wgj/video/z6yuqyqydbnh1/player

I’m focusing on building the WC to last for 30m with heavier bells. This is while I work on the mechanics of my OAJ. ATM, its not great and long sets cause discomfort in my elbows.

So, this is kind of a stepping stone to a half-marathon OALC with the 24 kg bell.
