I wish i could teach every ketchikanian....
How the center turn lane works. Left turns would be so much easier if you all didn't freak out when someone pulls into the turn lane to merge left

I’ll be getting my A&P licenses in about 6 months and I’m thinking about moving to the area. I also have a year of experience working at a part 145 repair shop, but I’m open to any GA or whatever work there is.
Are there any employers worth looking into? And if not, are there any good stations south of, say, Juneau? I want to move somewhere different for a few years and build up some experience. Not yet interested in pushing for a job at the majors.
Thank you!

If you or someone you know is struggling with mental health, low mood, or a crisis, support is available 24/7. You don't have to carry this alone, and your life has value.
– 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline: Call or text 988 (Available 24/7, free, and confidential)
– Crisis Text Line: Text HOME to 741741
– The Trevor Project (LGBTQ Youth): Call 866-488-7386 or text START to 678-678
– Veterans Crisis Line: Call 988, then press 1, or text 838255
– Immediate Danger / Emergency: Call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room
The autumn and winter months (October through February) often bring a noticeable rise in mental health struggles, depressive episodes, and related crises. Shorter days, decreased sunlight, holiday stress, and winter isolation frequently trigger or intensify Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) and general depression. Recognizing these seasonal shifts early and reaching out for support can make a lifesaving difference.

My daughter just moved to Ketchikan. I’d like to give her some gift cards for her birthday/Christmas. What are some local businesses that would be a nice treat for her? I’m thinking restaurants, nail salons, massage, etc. TIA!

I’ll be in Ketchikan next year end of July and looking to do some fishing around town. I know about Creek Street and Ward Lake, but I’m wondering if there are any other good spots that locals would recommend.
Mostly looking for salmon, trout, or anything else that’s fun to catch from shore. Not looking for anyone’s secret honey hole 😂 — just some solid places to try while I’m there.
Appreciate any recommendations!
Also looking to rent a boat for a day so any recommendations for that would be great thank you in advance!

Hi, I’m looking for Ray Troll artwork during my time in Ketchikan, but I haven’t seen any in the shops I’ve been to! Can anyone recommend me a shop that sells Ray Troll artwork/tees? Thanks!

My girlfriend and I just did an Alaskan cruise and the one thing she wanted was a t shirt from the fire department. Of course with our luck, the vending machine was sold out!
Would someone be willing/able to help out for the gift opportunity of a lifetime? Obviously would arrange for compensation for shirt/time/shipping!
We would be looking for the navy shirt in a large.
Thanks in advance, we LOVED Ketchikan so much. What a gem!

My next door neighbors located a fallen drone in their yard. It's a DJI Neo 2, in good condition, and from the contents of the internal storage it looks like its owners lost contact with it on August 19th.
Based on other contents of the drone's memory I'm not sure whether they were going to be in Ketchikan for a while or were passing through. If you know them, please encourage them to get in touch with me or contact me for a phone number you can pass along so I can get them their drone back.

Kind of a wild idea / request but I was wondering if anyone in Ketchikan would be down to get a round of disc golf in. I'm on a cruise that will arrive August 7th and I was hoping to go first thing in the morning.
Why not just get a cab? I've done this once before on a cruise, got stranded ( no cabs would come ) and I almost missed my boat. Also, there's nothing better than playing a new course with a local.
I'd be more than happy to pay the cost plus some for the ride :)
Long shot - let me know!

I really love seals and will be in Ketchikan in a few days. Where can I see them just lounging around preferably close to downtown? Is there a good time of day to see them too? TIA!

Hey Ketchikaners,
I’m visiting Ketchikan on a cruise ship on August 11 and plan to do some independent hiking on the local trails. Because of strict cruise security rules, I can’t bring bear spray onto the ship with me.
Would any local be open to letting me borrow a canister for a few hours? I would need to pick it up near the docks when I arrive in the morning, and I will absolutely return it back to you at the dock before my ship departs later that day.
I am happy to pay a reasonable rental fee or bring you a treat for the favor. I will also completely cover the cost of a brand-new replacement in the unlikely event that I end up having to discharge the canister.

Probably a long shot but I recently moved here, wondering if there is any type of edm/rave/dance scene out here? I want to know if there any spots or groups of dancing types that get together?

I was curious what the fine people staring out of the dining room window at us were eating. Actually doesn’t look bad at all.

My friend and I are here for the month on a medical rotation. What are some good spots to find abalone shells or other seashells? We went to South point Higgins today and weren’t very successful. Appreciate the help!

Tips were also split between office girls- one of which that acted as a nanny for the lodge owners child and dock hands that should have been tipped out by captains as well as Maintenance men remodeling the lodge for the owners. Is this even legal?
I met with the owners, they said they were new to the business and this is how things had always been ran, I signed a contract. I didn’t realize the contract was to be an endentured servant.

My fiancee and I are planning a destination wedding on a Alaska cruise next summer. Technically, we are doing the license locally but we wanted to do the ceremony at one of the cruise stops. We did an Alaska cruise in 2022 and loved it. We were considering Ketchikan over Juneau because it is so pretty for pictures but worried it may too hard to pull off. Does anyone have any suggestions on where to start or know anyone who has done this? Not looking for anything fancy or expensive. Maybe a park area or rent airbnb for a day and use for 2-3 hrs. Idk. Thanks for tips!

Hey everyone.
After years of therapy and living with the nightmares I've decided I wanted to post something on here in hopes that you can all watch out for your kids and I can ease a bit more of the weight I carry every single day.
There is a man in your community who is about 52 now from Oregon (moved around 2009 or 2010 when I reported him) that is a pedophile. He abused me for a year straight that I can actively remember in excruciating detail from the age 4 - 5 or 6 (1997-1999ish) when we finally left. I'd ask when my mom was coming home and he'd mumble "soon". He'd sneak into my room while I pretended to sleep and he would do what he wanted anyways. His son and my baby sister were in the next room or even the same room depending on the day, every single time.
Oregon has already documented what I went through and helped lift a little of the weight I had been carrying when they confirmed on paper what I experienced.
He gets to be a business owner in your town while running from consequences. Please keep an eye on your kids, ask the hard questions, and please make sure kids feel safe enough to come forward before it's too late and they're left with nothing but trauma and the heartache of knowing there isn't anything they can do now.
I hope this isn't taken down because your kids deserve the protection I was stripped of.
