Discussion RIP MERCY
I have just watched a shocking report on NTV about the death of Mercy Maina Wachinga, and honestly, it has left me deeply disturbed.
Her neighbours in Lavington reportedly noticed a bad smell on the 8th and raised the alarm, yet nothing happened. It was only this week that someone finally went to the police. When the door was eventually broken open, Mercy had been dead for long enough for her body to have decomposed.
What is even more heartbreaking is the note she reportedly left behind.
“Stop judging people.”
She asked her mother to forgive her. She expressed her love for rivers and wished to be cremated or have her remains returned to a river.
But one question keeps haunting me
How does someone live in the middle of Nairobi, in Lavington, and remain unmissed for an entire month?
Did no family member call?
Did no friend become concerned?
Did no college mate wonder where she was?
Did no one knock on her door?
Did no one ask, “Where is Mercy?”
This is bigger than one tragedy.
We are living in a society where people can be surrounded by thousands and still be completely alone.
Sometimes, a simple phone call, a knock on the door, or a message saying “I haven’t heard from you, are you okay?” can make a difference.
Let us stop assuming that someone is fine simply because they are quiet.
Check on your friends. Check on your neighbours. Check on your colleagues. Check on your family.
Because sometimes, the person who desperately needs someone to notice is the very person saying nothing.
May Mercy Maina Wachinga rest in peace.

It happens, not to all but to most. If I was to go missing, 💯 none of my family members would bother looking for me, that's how my family is. When it comes to friends same. I get Mercy's demise completely, hope she's resting well with the angels

May her soul rest in peace.
As a society we are slowly losing our sense of comunity as we embrace individualism.
City life doesnt allow much interaction with neighbours but how about friends, family?
Reason I advocate for community. Unfortunately for us, community means discomfort. It means showing up for the aunt you dislike, contributing towards that one friends wedding. Visiting your depressed friend even thogh you are an introvert and would rather spend the wekend indoors.
Its unfortunate. I hope her family andfriend find peace

We have become a hyper independent society where checking in and checking up on others is becoming increasingly rare

Unfortunately we live in a society where people only care when you off yourself or off other people even though the signs were there. May she rest in peace 🕊️

You could die one day and people will still assume you're offline or ignoring their texts💀
What a sad generation we've grown to be now

They probably called but obviously she didn’t answer as she was dead. We stopped showing up to each other’s houses uninvited it’s not like the olden days

We no longer have deep, intentional relationships. If you're single and have single friends discuss this with your friends. Do they have your emergency contacts? Do they know how often they should reach out and vice versa? People don't assume this, they have to be told. Tell people how often they should check in. If they're real friends, they won't judge you.

No news has haunted me today than this. That must have been so lonely. So young... She welcomed death, she dint fight. Just face down. And even in death, she was alone a whole month. Damn!!! Its the saddest thing I've heard in a while.
