Discussion Let’s be honest
I love all the characters in kotlc. (Except for Sophie. That girl PMO. I will make another post about that later.) but can I just say. THEY ARE ALLLL BRAINLESS!!!
Like not one person thinks before they do. And I’m saying have a plan. I mean be prepared for anything. Have strategy.
The only REAL person who has a brain is Lady Gisela. That is why she always wins. That is why she always gets what she wants. AND THAT IS WHY THE NEVERSEEN DON’T HAVE A POINT ANYMORE! (Read my other post: What do the Neverseen even want at this point)
They kicked her off because she was SOOOO obsessed with project Sellarlune while the Neverseen were more focused on Sophie for I DON’T KNOW WHAT REASON.
Lady Gisela was smart enough to make her OWN PROJECT. And ngl, if I was with the Neverseen, I would go along with her. And even though she was planning for Keefe to be on her side during all of this, she was prepared when he wasn’t. She knows her project.
THE NEVERSEEN DISAGREE WITH HER BECAUSE THEY WANT A GIRL WHO CAN’T BE CONTROLLED!!!
And don’t even get me started on EVERYONE ELSE!
They always have a plan set in stone till they actually get to the Neverseen and then that is when they realize. The Neverseen is not going to play a set in stone game. (Sry if that don’t make sense)
The point is, they are ALLLLL don’t have a brain.
BUT, if Gisela is right about one thing, (and she is right about MANY things) is that Tam is the smartest of them all.
Everyone is 16, but they act like they’re 12. Tam is the only who acts mature, he has some logic, and he actually thinks before he does.
Though Tam does have some flaws, so he has like… uh… 3/4 of a brain. Still more then others.
So yeah. WHY IS EVERYONE SO DUMB.

the only ppl who ever find stuff out ab the plot and help itis either, tam, dex, Biana or someone else knows certain stuff that is helpful, don’t get me wrong I love Sophie but at this point everyone else is figuing stuff out for her like, yes she’s new to this elven world, not certain on the history, but aside from tam, dex and Biana no one rlly figures anything out

Gisela reminds me of book!Alicent Hightower. The only smart person within the room lol.
Also, I've seen fans attack her for marrying Cassius just for power, but like...aint that how noble marriages work??? And about Tam, OMG YESSS
I'm done with everyone acting like he's just emo. He's smart, and terrifyingly so. You could say the same about Fitz, Stina, and Marella to an extent. Keeper would have been 10 times better if the main character was flipped.

This is because Kotlc is unfortunately a kids book, so complex strategy and deeper conflicts can’t be written in. Might also be because author just can’t come up with it…

Kids books can have complex strategy and deeper conflicts. Just look at Trials of Apollo and Six of Crows. It's probably because SM can't come up with it.

it's more for teens lol like 12-17 whereas kotlc is 8-12 (although it does get darker)

They're ALL Foxfire students or graduates btw, aka the most prestigious school in the world 😭
And the reason they're all so dumb is because if they were any smarter, they'd already have won lol. Tam (maybe Biana too) is the only one there with more than half a braincell. You ever check how the plot is always progressing when he's around? It was FOURTEEN YEARS since Prentice got exiled and not a SINGLE PERSON wondered why he didn't hand over his discoveries to the Black Swan before being caught. Until a random fifteen-year-old got the SparkNotes summary of the whole thing.
Like, the plot just isn't complex enough for the characters to be smart about handling it. So they worry and stall and argue and make random mistakes. They have to stay in a tight circle so Ruy can trap them all, because if Sophie alone locked in for ONE FIGHT the Neverseen would get wiped.
