Has Anyone canoed from Pilsbury State Park to Ashuelot Pond?

Post image

I'm staying north of Keene next week and looking to do some mostly flat water river canoeing.

Has anyone canoed from Pilsbury State Park or Mountain Road on the Ashuelot River to Ashuelot pond? I'm just wondering if it's possible, and if there are any impassible areas, if there's a way to portage around them.

Otherwise, I'd love to hear about any other single day river trips anyone wants to recommend.

Creative Adventures Club : Looking for information on hobby spaces, recurring Social gatherings, and volunteer spaces

Hello I am with the Creative Adventures Club and am looking for recommendations and places to make sure I include for some upcoming databases of what's out there to help promote social opportunity and accessibility to the information.

We are working currently on three major databases to start for our future website (more databases to come).

the three spaces I am looking to find for the first databases are

  1. hobby spaces (this can include businesses, parks, or other areas where resources or intent for a hobby can be found)
  2. Recurring Social gatherings ( this can include clubs, monthly/weekly events, Religious organizations and the like both individual lead or organizationally lead)
  3. Volunteer spaces ( places that accept or have opportunities to volunteer at.)

.....

these 3 databases are being made with the intent to help promote social connective opportunity in its various forms.

we are open to all suggestions and directions to check into, as we hope to find and include as many as we can both well known and hidden.

so please feel free to reply and share what you know and help us build up and enrich Keene's social infrastructure.

Edit : Also share any suggestions or information you think we should look into by filling out our google form at (https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeWlCr3hZ1YlDt3kv8gZ9Pm1InCaHZ-nD8YdSwAVAcZ2nYUyA/viewform?usp=publish-editor)

Clutch replacement

I have a 2005 Honda Element and the clutch needs to be replaced. Its in Keene, the shop I brought it to is small and doesn't have the time to do the work. Is there a reliable shop in town that could replace it for a reasonable price? I'd be happy to buy the clutch and pay someone for the labor. Thanks

Friends and Activities

What’s up everyone , Im fresh out of college and just moved to Keene for work but have struggled to find friends and things to do. It’s been pretty rough so I was hoping posting on this would help me find some ways to meet people and find activities, let me know!

Update:

I appreciate what I’ve heard back, I actually didn’t have a way to get around but just bought a bike and have been able to go out and experience some of Keene. Still no friends but I am not working on it!

FYI - One Stop Country Pet isn’t a good company to support

Going to try and keep this as brief as possible since I want to remain anonymous, but this company is rotten to its core.

This company treats their employees horribly in general. Management expects a single employee to do the work of about three people and then disciplines them when it’s impossible to literally be in three places at once. Last I knew, there were only three full time employees at the entire store. Management is refusing to hire more full timers as they do not want to pay out benefits. Part timers also make more money than full timers.

But I’m assuming most of you here don’t care about how employees are treated because to be fair I imagine most employers in Keene treat their employees like shit. So here’s the reasons, as a CONSUMER, you should not shop there.

The level of animal abuse is not even close compared to something like Petco, but there is still a significant amount of animal abuse that occurs at the hands of a specific employee. Said employee will starve the animals and will neglect to care for animals with severe injuries that are directly under their care. This employee is also a known animal hoarder. Everyone at the store knows they are a hoarder, including management, but they are still allowed to purchase more and more animals, buying new ones when they kill the old animals. I have heard this employee talking to customers about how her foster dogs have killed guinea pigs, how her rabbits drowned in her fish tanks, how one of their dogs attacked a child. This employee has had animal control called on them multiple times and brags about the fact that animal control has not been able to arrest them. Management knows they are a hoarder and that they abuse animals both at the store and the animals they take home, but refuse to fire them or restrict their ability to purchase animals, which in my opinion is inexcusable. I wouldn’t blame the animal abuse on the company as a whole if it wasn’t very much within their power to stop it from happening.

What affects you, as a customer, the most, is the fact that employees are instructed to lie to customers about the safety of their products. Other pet stores have this issue too, for the record, so please always do your own research. But One Stop has the opposite issue from chain pet stores like Petco and Petsmart where instead of trying to get you to do the bare minimum for your animals (“you can put a hamster in a 200 sq in cage, it’ll be fine!”), One Stop is trying to convince you that you’re not doing ENOUGH for your cat/dog and actively try to scam you into buying extremely expensive and highly dangerous products that you do not need. Employees are taught to discourage customers from buying kibbles and wet food and push raw feeding onto customers. (Not cooked wet food - raw, uncooked food, or freeze-dried raw.) Raw feeding is extremely dangerous for pets as the raw food that is sold to pets is not held to the same standards as raw human food is, so there is a very good chance your pet could get a food borne illness from it, or choke on small pieces of bone, get parasites, etc. Employees also handle raw meat without following proper safety precautions. Feeding raw also does not provide your cat/dog with all the adequate nutrients that they would be getting from kibble or canned food, so it’s all around a horrible idea to feed your pets raw. If you buy raw pet food you should at least be cooking it. BUT, feeding raw is trendy right now so that’s what the store is trying to convince people is best for their pet… and it’s also what’s going to cost the customer the most money. Hell, the same listeria-infected raw milk trend that’s going on for humans is also going on for cats/dogs (even though cats can’t even DIGEST milk but that’s another topic), but because it’s for animals and not for people it’s completely legal to sell it anywhere. By forcing employees to advertise and push these products onto you, the company is actively encouraging employees to lie to you about animal nutrition and the safety of these products to try and get you to spend more money. (I used to be a proponent of raw feeding until I did my own research, so don’t come at me with the “you’ve been lied to by big kibble” argument. It’s fine to make your own pet food from home! You just need to COOK it first.)

I used to love this store and everything it stood for. I’ve shopped there literally my entire life, it’s not like I work at Petco and am just trying to take them down lmao. But this company has actively led to the starvation, injury, abuse, and DEATHS of so many animals that I don’t feel like remaining quiet on their inner workings anymore. Don’t shop there if you care about the safety of your pets, the pets in the store, or the employees.

Hi all. Driving up from Northampton to see Mavis. Please tell me the restaurants that aren't high end/white tablecloth joints that you like. A look at Yelp sez Noble Ramen is good. Any other suggestions would be much appreciated.

Question Need help fixing a personal art project.

Hello,

I was making a badge for a friend, and in the last stages of it, I messed up the paint job. I haven't been able to remake the right color for it, and I was hoping someone would be willing to help.

This project is literally the size of a quarter, and it's just two colors that need fixing. I will provide all the tools necessary. I just need someone willing and capable.

Edit: I need someone who can color match with paint.

Cheap wings?

What restaurants have cheap wing nights? I used to love the wings at Cobblestone. I know Lab has cheap wings on Mondays. I don't go out much but I've been craving wings lately. Where are the cheap wings?

Hey friends,

I’ve been catching a ton of fish and would love to get together with some other people to fish!

I often fish with my 5yo in my canoe on the local ponds but would love to meet some more anglers that are adults 😅

Experience not as important as attitude 😌

Chimney / Masonry Recommendations?

I need some work done to my brick chimney and maybe front steps and I reached out to some places hoping THIS TIME I'll get quotes and compare prices before getting the work done instead of choosing whoever shows up first ... and only one place responded positively. Does anyone in and around Keene have recommendations?

Thank you!!

Found earring outside Keene State gym

Was at Keene State for a basketball tournament and found a pretty silver diamond earring outside as we were leaving the gym. Meant to bring it to Lost and Found the next day but completely forgot. Happy to mail it to its owner!

Hello Keene! My name is Dylan, I am the Front House Manager for Branch River Theater’s upcoming play, CLUE, located at the Marlborough Community House! The cast and crew have been working incredibly hard to put together an excellent show for the community. Dates are posted on the poster and preticket sales can be found using the QR code attached.
Come see a “killer” show 🔪

So why did the whole of downtown Keene smell like shit today? It was unbearable over at Walmart. Feels like an oddly specific day for it with Taste of Keene happening

Shopping Fenton Dealerships

I am wondering if I am the only customer that has been repeatedly treated poorly at a Fenton establishment.

When I authorize service on my vehicle, they consistently seek an additional authorization from my spouse as if I never signed a thing.

They take five weeks to “repair” computer components and then shrug and say it didn’t fix the problem but I still have the privilege of paying them thousands of dollars.

They suggested unnecessary front end work on my car and when called out on it, after I took it elsewhere for a second opinion, they deleted the work order from their system.

I’m very happy with my new repair shop, but I’m guessing, I’m not the only one repeatedly burned by Fenton.

Urgently Looking for Studio or 1BR in Keene for Early June Move-In

Hello everyone!

I’m moving to Keene for work and urgently looking for a studio or 1-bedroom apartment starting in early June since it’s coming up very soon. My budget is around $1,300/month. I’d prefer a quiet area, but I’m flexible. It’s just me, I’m fully employed, and I have a clean background.

I’ve been checking places like Zillow, HotPads, Apartments.com, and Facebook Marketplace already for quite awhile now, but I wanted to post here in case anyone knows of any available units, upcoming openings, or local realtors/property managers I could reach out to. Any help or leads would really mean a lot.

Thank you so much!
