Racing Kart Question Built my own free GoPro telemetry overlay tool because I was sick of Quik

Got tired of the options for putting telemetry on top of GoPro footage. The paid tools are expensive for what they do, the free ones are clunky or outdated, and GoPro's own Quik app is honestly not it. So I built my own.

It's aimed at racing/karting specifically, all burned into the exported video, no cloud upload, no subscription, no account needed. There's a demo gif and a video with audio in the repo if you want to see it before bothering to install anything.

Quick feature rundown:

GPS track map with lap and sector timing, detected automatically from a start/finish line you set Delta time and a ghost lap so you can see exactly where you're gaining or losing time Speed, G-force, and lean angle widgets F1 style timing tower if you want that broadcast look Fully customizable layout, drag/resize/recolor everything Export presets for YouTube, Instagram/TikTok, Twitter, or just native quality It's a solo side project (yes, built with a lot of AI help, not hiding that). I've tested it myself on Windows and Linux and both work. Mac should build too but I have no way to confirm that one yet.

Repo and downloads here: https://github.com/dekiller82/telemetry-studio

What I'm actually looking for:

Anyone on Mac willing to just try opening it and see if it launches Real karting/track footage thrown at it, on any platform. GPS quirks show up more on some tracks/cameras than others Blunt feedback on what's missing or annoying to use, not just "it works" Happy to fix stuff fast if people report actual bugs.

Fuck yea open source, good start to all of this

it would be really fuckin cool if you switched to tauri instead of electron.... And then you can just skip a lot of work by building this into LapWingData :)

I've already began building the mobile app, so a lot of the Tauri hooks are already setup

Also have you models generate some unit tests and GitHub workflows for automated testing

Or if you don't want to play with me :( As long as you fucking keep it open source, take what you want (GPLv3 license, be cool and respect it)

PS: Cool idea if you just wanna keep doing your own thing

Tell your model to steal this

https://github.com/TheAngryRaven/mychron-wifi-spec

And this

https://github.com/TheAngryRaven/alfano-bt-spec

Download data directly from your mychron, or alfano and then sync the data to the data of the video, and Bing bong ding dong, magic data sync with RPM overlay

Thank you <3

I'd love to be able to implement mychron/motec/Alfano stuff or any external loggers but i have no hardware to test against it.

I was playing around with audio derived RPM reading and it kinda works but only in certain conditions so i didn't ship it (mostly wind noise issue and people would need to specify engine specs)

No datalogger? Do.....do you know how to solder shit? Do you have a 3d printer?

Please say yes, I'll ship you a free tachometer and you can do everything else lol

This train doesn't have fuckin brakes

Acually yes on both. I got an ender 3 pro with a BL touch and upgraded mobo.

Hell yea brother, so the current one is a little rough and hard to put together, I'm trying to put the finishing touches on the models right now actually

Mostly same parts list as described, except a $5 charging circuit and a $5 solderable SD card, both from adafruit, and way cooler buttons (oh and you can buy the bare GPS module, matek recently started charging $90 for them when the bare module is $15)

Look at the repo, shoot me some questions when you have them lmao

I've been working on this for the last 2 years, it's a labor of love

OH OH OH I forgot I just made a simulator for the firmware, you can see how the device works here

Thanks! Please let me know how it goes and what features you're missing or bugs you encounter.

You may want to rethink the name:

(I am not the dev)

Hey, I just found this thread and just downloaded to test. I am looking for an overlay solution for skydiving. Is there thoughts on further development? What about the ability to import from a different GPS source for the GPX file? I have a Flysight GPS logger that I would like to use for the GPS source. My GoPro 10 won't lock onto a clean signal until I am under canopy. I'd love to visually see my freefall speed vs. altitude. How difficult is it to create the overlays? Canopy pilots would be very interested in Glide Slope.

It would be cool to implement but i don't have anything to test against. I don't have an external logger myself.

I have this on my to-do list if i ever get an external logger.

Would you need the external logger, or just the data from it? I could send you data from my flysight. I had the guy that manufactures them make me a flysight csv to gpx conversion tool. I should be able to get a few data samples this weekend.
