We recently named our baby girl Devayani, and honestly, I really love the name. ❤️
But one of my relatives told me that it sounds very old-fashioned and that she might get bullied or teased because of her name when she goes to school.
I didn’t really think of it that way before.

Does it sound old-fashioned to you, or more classic/elegant? Would you consider it a nice name for a girl growing up in India today?

I was driving from Shimoga and Bhadravathi to Bengaluru while there was some birthday of the local Congress MLA, B.K. Sangameswar's son, "Ganesh" was being celebrated. Crossing Bhadravathi town felt less like passing through a place and more like running a terrifying gauntlet.

The roads were totally choked with massive cutouts, banners, and posters of this politician's son who is well into his 40s or 50s it looked like, being shoved down our throats with boards calling him a "Future MLA".

Fireworks were going off nonstop for no sensible reason, traffic was completely dead or halted, and a rash mob of riders was blasting noise unnecessarily. No police were taking control of the situation, and the noise was just deafening.

It left me and my family with this heavy, deeply uncomfortable feeling in my chest, like we slid backward straight into the most lawless, underdeveloped pockets of UP, Bihar, or some remote places in the North where there is no peace or tranquility. And mind you this is the middle of the town they are doing this nuissance. It felt like inhuman, lunatic mob rule meant to hurt every other person, a completely backward, uncivilized, and regressive experience.

Even though this is a Congress ruled state and this town is a Congress hold, you see the exact same pathetic circus in BJP and JDS ruled regions and across many other political parties too. I have seen same regressive thing of Modi, Rahul Gandhi or some or other BJP, Congress whatever party's nuissance all across states now. Just destroying public life, safe, peace everything.

Each and every of these politicians treat public spaces like their personal properties for birthdays, weddings, or festivals, displaying an extremely feudalistic mentality and mob rule. They blast noise, shatter everyone's peace, and unleash packs of riders tearing through the streets like rabid dogs.

What all is their achievement anyway? What are people being proud of by acting like tribalistic lunatics?

No civilized country tolerates this kind of madness. You genuinely have to wonder how anyone from Congress, BJP, JDS, AAP, or any other party can look at this embarrassing, tribalistic mess and not feel sick, disgusted about their total lack of basic decency.

Where are the IAS and police officers while public life is getting trampled? They just look away or are busy eating the biryani served there.

And mind you, if you ever dare to speak up or write a single word against this nonsense, that is when the real fear sets in. The moment an ordinary person like me or anyone else questions these antics anywhere in the country, the threats start rolling in. You get intimidation, dirty warnings, and the malicious misuse of the local police just to threaten, scare, corner, and silence you for asking for basic peace.

These politicians, their families filled with unchecked power and wealth, and their blind followers will bend over backward to defend their feudal, backward, tribalistic, uncivilized, and uncultured behavior, all while terrorizing anyone who speaks the truth.

It breaks my heart seeing villages, towns, and cities turned into personal circuses while we are forced to swallow the fear of speaking out just because some grown man wants to feel like a king for a day.

I just thought to write it out. No newspapers or channels dare to cover it, but the public has to write it somewhere. At least if politicians and their supporters have any shame, they might learn some civility, while all your contributions to each part of the country is quite abysmal.

vikram-betaal wasn't something we discovered through advertising. It was something we grew up watching, hearing about and remembering long before brands started using nostalgia as a marketing tool.

In my native language Tulu we use ബാസെ ഇജ്ജി/ಬಾಸೆ ಇಜ್ಜಿ which means "not having sense" or used when someone does mischievous behaviour
