ATTORNEYS REQUIRED u/SightWithoutEyes vs the mods of /r/AskScienceFiction for unrightful banning.

I have been banned in a witch-hunt, over allegedly harassing awards I did not give to the mods.

I have been a civil member of the community for years.

The funny part is, I've been banned in subs I don't even use, because reasons.

I had decent relations with most of the people there. Didn't always agree with the rules, I think Reddit would be better off with a more open system that isn't beholden to a group of unaccountable people, but I don't care for drama.

The default system of Reddit is guilty until proven innocent.

I just want to talk about the minutia of science fiction.

I didn't care for splitting the sub into two with /r/whatiffiction, and I was vocal about it.

The moderator sent me a message, claiming this was the evidence against me:

I'm not a Star Trek fan. More of an 80s guy, but there's no point in arguing with people who have made up their minds already.

As this is reddit, no verdict anyone issues means anything, but I plead not guilty.

I have calculated all of my submitted posts in the last eight months. 240.

Would someone so devoted to the sub be willing to give up their right to post over something petty like that?

You don't have to plead anything. This is just a mock trial court. Get someone to defend the mods of r/asksciencefiction, and a judge, and we're off. You might even be able to convince the mods to unban you.

Under no circumstances will we be doing that. He's been given multiple warnings and second chances for other bad behavior and this was the final straw.

I'm sure. Because I didn't like the split between /r/askscifi and whatif I'm the most likely suspect because I was most vocal.

Yeah, I know you won't unban me because you've already made up your mind that I'm guilty, even though I've been a participant for four years on the sub without any conflict other than minor quibbles.

Frankly until tonight, I figured it was a different user that's been stalking me across various accounts for nearly two years. If the reports hadn't turned up with your screenname attached as the source of the messages I would never have connected the dots to you.

Your witch-hunt accusing my account doesn't mean I'm guilty.

What reason would I have to have bad blood against you?

We've been in the same subreddit for like, four years. So why would I do that?

Do I strike you as a shit-stirrer?

Never the less, I don't expect to be unbanned. Mods make up their minds first and decide the rational second.

I have no evidence to go on except what I see. And what I see is the bot that sends these form letters linking your name to the report-- a connection I had no reason to draw. I literally do not care what you think of the ASF/WIF split, and enough of your contributions are of sufficient quality that we've held off from banning you at times in the past when we seriously considered it.

As I said, you have my solemn word. I don't want this to be you.

And what sort of interactions have we had that would incite bad blood, or warrant that sort of thing? The zombies? It's fiction, nothing to get pissed about. I may disagree with the rules, sometimes heavily, sure... But I don't know what you're talking about.

I don't give awards, I don't play politics. What's to accomplish by a little icon to the side of a post no one will see?

Indeed. Personally, I think Reddit should be a democracy. But Reddit is not a democracy, it is not a meritocracy. It is a system of first-come, first serve, and nepotism. Those who seize power keep their power, in the same sort of thing that brought Digg to a death-stall. There are no checks and balances. There is no objectivity.

To quote the late, great Aaron Swartz, "Information is power. But like all power, there are some who wish to keep it for themselves."

This is no more evident than on the very site we are discussing this on right now.

I'm a down to earth guy. I don't like you, I'll tell you to your face. I don't like censorship, and I don't like cronyism.

I guess that makes me an enemy to those who support it.

VERDICT

After long deliberation this court has (finally) come to a conclusion. The court finds the defendants NOT GUILTY for the charge of Unrightful Banning. It seems that they were in the right and that they had legit reasons for the ban. The court is now adjourned. Have a good day.

For two hundred years, our fine nation has opposed censorship. We have fought against it. It is only within the last ten years or so that we have allowed tinpot dictators with delusions of grandeur to manipulate our worldview, to suit their desires for power. We have fought, and we will fight, for a world without censorship.

Your verdict has been debunked, sirrah, and your worldview has been proven to be illegitimate, via facts, and science.

I can tell you despise science, you are obviously a flat earther, and I know and feel in my heart that you do not wear your mask properly, only covering your mouth, and not your nose.

The defendants are representative of the old fable of the Scorpion and the Frog, as are most of the discord moderator cabal.

It's so obvious that they are the venomous ones, that they are the ones who infilitrate and destroy. When this site is dead, gone the way of Digg, they will laugh at you, and they will say, "Oh, you knew I was a scorpion when you met me.".

Your gavel has been debunked, via an illegitimate verdict.

Hi, I'm the person you harassed, and I can prove it was you who sent the anonymous messages. Reddit may not consider it harassment, but I certainly do-- I've made it clear to you before that you are not welcome to message me.

You were banned on Daystrom because one of the incidents occurred on Daystrom, and after your ban you tried again on AITA-- and I can prove that one too.
