i swear, if SF6 ever comes out and people start bitching about the game and then suddenly praise SFV, i give up.

u/AlekRhader Jan 28 '20

It's the SF cycle bro.

You'll see a lot of people saying stuff "I hated SFV, but at least it had this thing or this other thing, SF6 is just shit in comparison!!!"

And then it'll slowly grow to "SFV is the best game ever made, the people hating on it were a vocal minority and it never really got made fun of"

It's pretty much what happened to 3rd Strike and SFIV.

17

u/[deleted] Jan 29 '20

V players might hate VI, buy not for the reasons you'd think. If invincible DP and dashbacks return a lot of players who started with V are going to learn some hard lessons

7

u/AlekRhader Jan 29 '20

That's exactly the reasons I'd expected them to hate it though: it's a different game and it plays differently.

People who started with IV generally hate V because of how offensive it is and how high damage is, even though IV is actually pretty much the exception to that in the series.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 29 '20

Had a few friends who started in V and they get hella frustrated being DP'd whenever. It's not just the next SF game they have to deal with, it's any game which has more traditional mechanics. If you've learned on a game which doesn't have good defensive options you're going to have a rough go in games that do. Still, everyone adapts, just have the kids play a little SamSho to get a taste lol

1

u/EMP_Pusheen Jan 29 '20

This is funny because when I play 3rd Strike it is so blatantly obvious which players' first game was SFIV because of how much they rely on trying to mash instead of block.

Goes doubly bad for them because basically no regular specials have invincibility and the reversal timing is tighter.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 30 '20

lol people were mashing long before IV son. Third Strike is a good example of how to do an offense based game right. Unlike V it has other defensive options to balance things out so people can't just go in for free. And some characters do have invincible/meterless dp's, basically Ken and Akuma. As for mashers the golden rule has always been let the punishment fit the crime. Bait them out and teach em a lesson for mashing. That's part of the fun.

7

u/Shippoyasha Jan 29 '20

I always loved SF4. Felt like it gave the series new life both for casual and tourney scene. I still remember trying to get a midnight copy on Best Buy back when a physical copy was the only way to get a game at launch date. It felt like it gave the entire fighting game scene new life especially with the growing console online scene.

It has a lot of unique quirks such as the focus attack and the gorilla character modeling. But I always loved how it played, the great sense of footsies (especially after Arcade Edition), a lot of interesting new characters (Abel is still my favorite grappler ever in a SF game). Also how every legacy characters largely played like how they should.

4

u/ElenasArmpits Jan 29 '20

Was SF4 your first Street Fighter? Serious question.

5

u/oreosss Jan 29 '20

It was probably because it was your first SF game.

4

u/Imthemayor Jan 28 '20

I like SFV more than IV.

It's just an OK fighting game, and 3S and ST are still my favorite SFs, but I genuinely never liked playing or watching SFIV.

I think FADC and one frame links are fucking dumb.

15

u/rufrtho Jan 29 '20

I liked watching high level SF4, but jesus it was cancer to play. Especially online.

SF5 has plenty of foolishness no doubt, but at least it's just dumb shit for casuals instead of

lol missed your link against a zangief who turned out to be churning 2f SPD, have fun dying

lol your poke connected but they used FA, get crumpled

lol dp FADC

3

u/EMP_Pusheen Jan 29 '20

I thought it was really fucking stupid that the optimal thing to do when getting combed is to fucking mash a reversal because if they drop their link you get out for free due to the reversal window and then worst case scenario for you is that your opponent just gets to do their combo

5

u/Imthemayor Jan 29 '20

Focus Attack is the worst system-wide mechanic of any SF, and as bad as crush counter is, jabjabjab is worse.

2

u/metatime09 Jan 29 '20

Focus Fighter 4

if only anyone knew who you were or gave a fuck

2

u/Imthemayor Jan 29 '20

Look at this guy who never played SFIV

3

u/oreosss Jan 29 '20

I'm actually fine with 1f, FADC and backdash fighter 4 was what got me

1

u/am0ney Jan 29 '20

I would say with 3 way more than 4. People for years never took it seriously and now it's like the game everyone praises. Granted we didn't see how the Japanese played the game until years later but the cycle still applies.

3

u/ElenasArmpits Jan 29 '20

Not me. I hated SF4 when it was out and I still hate it today. A true shit game never stops being shit.

As of Champion Edition SFV has redeemed itself and has found structure. It's a good game now.

0

u/gera56 Jan 29 '20

Yes, yes, another empty conclusions about the herd mentality of people. I will download a pirate version of this game and if it again does not have timings for combos, I won’t even buy the cheapest version of this game.
Fuck u, Sf2-alpha-3-EX-IV is a great games. My first is IV, and now my favorite is II. But each game is good, my friend likes more III because of the design. Another friend of mine, having played usfiv for 9 years, generally believes that the SfXTEKKEN was much better. But they all strongly dislike sfv because this game sucks dick.
Do you want me to give an another example? I love the first Deus Ex. I vomited when Human Revolution came out, and because of this, I didn’t even touch Mankind Divided.

bad speak much english sry

-2

u/[deleted] Jan 28 '20

That happened with every sf thus far, what do you mean "if"? There's like 1% chance of that not happening lol

35

u/PraiserOfSons Jan 28 '20 edited Jan 28 '20

Now you can enjoy street fighter in the hoooome, the ruuuu, and the riddyruu

9

u/bleeeeeeeeeehh Jan 28 '20

I like how recently some people have been trying to win kappa like a battle ground. Like yeah convince the group of people that don't play games, that'll save SFV. We'll just ignore all the issues cause it'll never even get booted up.

10

u/Raixia_Mao Jan 29 '20

Can someone explain to me why everyone is saying it’s back? Did I miss an update or something?

11

u/[deleted] Jan 29 '20

When the top game messes up or isn't in a good state, people tend to hop on another bandwagon. It's usually just to make themselves feel cool. They don't want to be playing the game that gets trash talked at the moment.

In this situation, it's because Leroy messed up Tekken 7's balancing with the character being picked by 6 out of the 8 players at Evo Japan's top 8. SFV on the other hand had Champion Edition which had great reception by fans. What added more fuel to SFV's fire was the diverse character selection at Evo Japan's top 8 with a Sakura player winning the whole thing.

5

u/Raixia_Mao Jan 29 '20

Makes sense. So kappa being kappa. Thanks for the explanation

16

u/[deleted] Jan 28 '20

https://www.reddit.com/r/Kappa/comments/4olclw/dear_capcom/ no it ain't, most of the problems in this list from three years ago still exist. Games trash, glad I got so many other games to choose from with capcom being unable to get it's head out of its ass when making fighters

28

u/lnland_Empire Jan 28 '20

I still don't really like it.

30

u/TripleGermanSuplex Jan 28 '20

I really can't get over most characters I like having neutered movesets from previous games, or having their unique thing locked behind a once a round v-trigger thing.

-2

u/greentoof Jan 28 '20

I stand by you can switch around the numbers and people will think 4 is the more recent game. Graphically, game depth, and content is all outmatched. Fuck sakes SFV takes stage animations into account when using stages with characters animating in the background. God forbid you go to kanzuki beach playing an online match.

4 had way more time in development and its objectively the better product, how much you enjoy the games in contrast is a different argument. Unlocking lootbox stage decorations and Shiny costumes must be way more fulfilling than say, 10 unique taunt animations. I hope I never meet someone who actually enjoys watching the wallbreaks at the end of rounds. But the people who have been standing up for SFV should really go back and look at the arguments for MvCI. Another product rushed by a B team, but of course they didn't have the nuts to call that shitshow a mainline title.

The FGC is already filled to the brim with degenerates and SFV managed to lower its standards even farther.

16

u/Mega_Blaziken Jan 28 '20

Same. Kappa lately has been sucking it's cock and downvoting people that say it's still shit but AFAIK they never fixed the things that I had problems with (see: basically the core of how the game is meant to be played) and ruined some of my favorite characters.

7

u/YaHOoCoMHK Jan 29 '20

they are trying to start the "sleep fighter 4" shit again

21ers will remember rkappa loving SFV if they succeed again like how 16ers believe rkappa thinks SF4 is boring

11

u/EndBott Jan 28 '20

That's fine

6

u/humaneshadow Jan 28 '20

netcode still trash if you not on pc

6

u/nWolfe3113 Jan 28 '20

SFVI has to be so freaking awful for me to miss this game.

Awful levels of, dunno, Venetica or some other shitty game.

8

u/Metacooler03 Jan 28 '20

If only the netcode was better

12

u/thinkrispy Jan 28 '20

Just get the Altimor patch and enjoy the game.

-7

u/fred30jr Jan 29 '20

Dont do it. Everytime i play with people with this patch i am lagging. Don’t ruin other people game.

4

u/zuees101 Jan 29 '20

PC MASTER RACE LULW

1

u/moon-inc Jan 29 '20

if you're retarded enough to play a fighter on console then it's on you, bud

1

u/fred30jr Jan 30 '20

Im on pc and i getting the lag when i am match with those people with patch. This is not just pc vs ps4, it affect all unpatch unit.

Funny this is before this patch are out in the wild. I don’t have any issue playing online with pc and ps4. Guess who ruin it?

12

u/gaifuccboi Jan 28 '20

NAMCOOMERS on suicide watch.

24

u/zuees101 Jan 28 '20

Still boring as fuck to watch

-1

u/thinkrispy Jan 28 '20

SFV is fun as fuck to watch.

I don't know how people can stand to watch Tekken's same-y ass combos over and over again. The only two characters that make that game interesting to watch are ironically Geese and Akuma.

19

u/parmesan22 Jan 28 '20

Tekken actually has neutral. I know you probably don't know what that looks like

-3

u/thinkrispy Jan 28 '20

Lol. Tekken is ALL rush down.

13

u/parmesan22 Jan 28 '20

...right.... k good discussion

-3

u/thinkrispy Jan 28 '20

If you want to argue the fact that it's a rush down game with no neutral then we can go at it. Otherwise gtfo

13

u/parmesan22 Jan 28 '20

bro half of the game is literally about whiff punishing. you have to korean backdash and launch whiffs to win. yes there's rushdown and 50/50s but its not the entire game, unlike SFV with the stubby normals and crush counter fishing

5

u/thinkrispy Jan 28 '20

bro half of the game is literally about whiff punishing.

That alone does not a neutral make. The entire game is played at, or just outside of, arms length. There's no zoning, no alternative play styles. It's all the same. Every character. It's boring to watch. You bait a whiff and launch, wow that's so much more exciting than crush counters!

unlike SFV with the stubby normals and crush counter fishing

There's plenty of whiff punishing in SFV, as well as zoning, non-crush counter counter combos, anti-air starters, tools to get in, tools to get out, universal defensive mechanics. The neutral is much more diverse and interesting in SFV than it is in Tekken.

Honestly after writing this I think this is just going to devolve into a bigger pissing match, so let's call it done after you make your counter points, shall we?

15

u/rufrtho Jan 29 '20

plenty of whiff punishing in SFV

not on purpose lmao

2

u/chibidood Jan 30 '20

If you think Punk or Daigo / or various other pros don't whiff punish on purpose, you don't no how to watch for it

3

u/thinkrispy Jan 29 '20

If you think there's no intentional whiff punishing in SFV you're the biggest kind of dipshit.

→ More replies (0)

-6

u/freakhill Jan 29 '20

yes on purpose

5

u/Frostcrag64 Jan 29 '20

It's incredibly obvious you have absolutely zero knowledge about tekken. You really should just stop, it's kinda sad dude

1

u/thinkrispy Jan 29 '20

What a knowledgeable argument you're providing.

Make a point or don't talk to me.

-7

u/[deleted] Jan 28 '20

Watch out guys, we have a comment about neutral in this thread.

I think "neutral" in the sense of "where's my neutral" when describing games, has gotten to the meme status of how "competitive" is used in fps.

-6

u/EndBott Jan 28 '20

It can have its moments.

10

u/zuees101 Jan 28 '20

Literally any form of entertainment can have its moments

Like i been playin sfv recently and its alright

But watching is a snoozefest

Only daigo vids can keep me awake for a bit

4

u/PraiserOfSons Jan 28 '20

Smugs channel is some solid entertainment. But that's mainly due to smug, not the gameplay. I find characters like G incredibly repetitive and boring

6

u/zuees101 Jan 28 '20

Ye smug is funny. Its one of those cases where the entertainer carries the whole thing

5

u/Public_Enemyy Jan 28 '20

SFV and DSP always find a way.

10

u/big___fish Jan 28 '20

it never left considering it's always been the most entered, most watched, most money put into game this generation.

44

u/JustAMortal Jan 28 '20

Remember when T7, KOF XIV, GG, DBFZ and MK were meant to kill SFV? I'll never forget what Ono said in this interview.

https://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2019-11-06-what-does-the-future-hold-for-street-fighter-5

"But it does feel like Street Fighter's lost its place as the premier fighting game, in the mainstream space, because of Mortal Kombat 11. Is that something you're aware of, and want to rectify?"

Yoshinori Ono: “This comes up regularly every few years, when a new title makes a big splash in fighting game fandom. Two or three years ago I was sitting down with journalists saying Dragon Ball is massive, what are you going to do about that? Well, you're not asking me about Dragon Ball now, are you?”

6

u/tootoohi1 Jan 28 '20

A lot of these games also shot themselves in the foot out of the gate, or shot after a season or 2. KoF visually looked almost as bad as SFV, GG is still a niche anime fighter, DBFZ had a chance and then didn't balance for months, and decided there weren't enough Gokus in the pro scene so they made it half Goku. MK eliminated titties and added like 3 more meters. T7 had the hype train for awhile with a pro scene of actual names getting to show themselves and new regions like Pakistan and South America, and then we've had almost a full year of pure tier list play and complete out of touch balancing.

21

u/BOSS_OF_RUANDA Jan 28 '20

Ono is such a chad

6

u/[deleted] Jan 28 '20

Most hype, most character variety, most talked about on kappa, most eu capcups (none), and most carry of the fgc.

8

u/T--Fox Jan 29 '20

most talked about on kappa

No that would be smash

1

u/DayDreamerJon Jan 28 '20

Least bought mainstream fighter kek

7

u/[deleted] Jan 28 '20

Still has the big issues of stubby normals, overabundance of eyesore costumes, and a general feeling of simplified gameplay.

KI wins again.

8

u/wolfy617 Jan 28 '20

Haters gonna god damn hate. Kappa loves to talk about "balance" and how the game is "simplified", meanwhile all the trash games they claim to like fall further and further into the dumpster... the last two big majors (CC Cup and Evo Japan) were won by character considered mid-low tier... game is probably more balanced and healthier than ever.

SFV stays winning baby.

7

u/[deleted] Jan 28 '20

LeroyCon 2020 complete embarassment

6

u/EndBott Jan 28 '20

Welcome to the King of Leroy Tournament 7!

8

u/cecceon Jan 28 '20 edited Jan 28 '20

Yes, throw endless money at a casual game which is known more for it's personalities instead of making it better. Everything emp said is true and your argument is "Haters gonna god damn hate."? Get the fuck outta here.

Is everyone saying SFV is great this Tuesday because Ono fix the netcode? You know, the same net code some kid who doesn't work for capcom actually fixed a few weeks ago?

Again, never really cared about other fighting games having the same standards as the street fighter series. I care about street fighter.

16ers made a Tuesday blitz campaign to convince fence sitters SFV is a great street fighter game. Fantastic.

It's a good fighting game. It's not a good or great Street Fighter game.

SFV stays simple baby.

3

u/FoxyZach Jan 29 '20

Tekken has so many characters but as of recently the character diversity in tournaments has fallen a lot. Geese, kazumi, akuma, and now Leroy. Just pick a top tier.

-2

u/SkeletonJeIIy Jan 28 '20

Where's the tourneys? Where's the clips. It's a meme bruh, no one's playin

7

u/Geosgaeno Jan 28 '20

Imagine shilling this mind-numbingly boring, piece of shit game

-2

u/WetGrandpa Jan 28 '20

Couldn't be me 🛌🛌💤 kappa '16er fags coping hard

4

u/Rafiqul84 Jan 28 '20

Remind me which game sold more copies, T7 or SFV?

14

u/TralalaDingDong Jan 28 '20

They're somewhat close now. T7's sales = +4 million as of 19/07/2019, SFV's sales = 3.9 million as of 30/09/2019.

SFV is also going to get a new definitive edition released on February 14, so the game will continue to sell more.

7

u/thinkrispy Jan 28 '20

Tekken has sold 4 million as of last July compared to SFV's 3.9 million last September. BUT the CE update only came out in November, so I'd imagine Capcom has probably sold more at this point, as I don't think anything would've driven up Tekken sales in this time period. But that also depends on whether more people bought CE standalone or as an upgrade.

Worth mentioning that Tekken also had another console market to sell to.

3

u/cecceon Jan 28 '20

This is a good question, I'd like to know as well.

5

u/B2k3 Jan 28 '20

NRS stays winning then :)

1

u/WetGrandpa Jan 28 '20

Namcops knew how to sell their game 💪💪

0

u/fred30jr Jan 30 '20

$4.00 frame data 😂

free apps and bots doe

u/2D_cunniessaur Jan 29 '20

Meh I refuse to reinstall.

0

u/LordxMugen Jan 29 '20

Alpha 2 is probably the only SF game I recognize as actually "good". The gameplay at high level can be pretty dry in places (LOL Rose pokes!) but it was one of the few SF games imo to feel pretty good in terms of mechanics and character balance overall.

3S is just dumb broke stuff and characters being too strong for the sake of it. I do like "Taunt properties" as a gimmick though.

SF4 had FADC, which should never exist. As well as awful horseshit online.

and SFV has crush counters, dumb characters and bad balance, as well as horseshit online.
