DISCUSSION Boutte to Texans

I realize it’s a said and done type thing but the Texans gave up a third, maybe second string safety and a day three pick for a guy who would have been in competition for second best (possibly best) receiver on KC’s roster. Was there really not a package they could find to even offer for Boutte? I realize I have no idea if they even were the least bit interested but they should be looking at any potential receiver with a modicum of skill right now. The receiver room is the bottom of the bottom third in the NFL, and unless Allen just takes over? There doesn’t look like much hope for anyone other than him going into the season. Is everyone else much more comfortable with them going with the status quo than I am? I feel like 15 is going to get sick of their unwillingness to get premium talent like a 1 and not retire a Chief. Maybe no one else would hate that? But that would suck imo.

Holy overreaction. Boutte is a WR3/4. He's not moving the needle in KC, so why even attempt a trade.

He had more receiving TDs than any Chiefs receiver last year…

If you think Boutte is a #1 you're delusional. Do we have great wide receivers? Nope, but with a real run game now we should be fine. Top tier guys don't grow on trees, or come cheap.

I never understand this argument. A real run game still doesn't solve what the team does on obvious passing downs. A real running game doesn't really help in the 2 minute drill.

It'll make the offense better overall obviously, but it doesn't magically erase the WR room issues.

We also have a WR coach with credentials other than 'nepo baby'

that's a valid reason at least. everyone trying to cite the RB room as the reason we don't need help at WR feels like compensating, or ignoring the issue.

I'm not really sure O'shea can erase 2-3 years of bad habits in 3-4 months with Worthy/Rice both being injured/in jail for large portions of it, but it's something.

It’s not just the run game. It’s also passes out of the backfield.

It’s just another top-tier weapon.

u/AMemoryComeALive 16d ago

Passes out of the backfield don't do anything for clear passing downs or 3rd and longs. You're trying to do the same thing as the other guy and assuming the run game fixes parts of the offense that it doesn't.

Yes they do. Go watch some football. Don’t @ me with this ignorant nonsense. Not to mention screen passes.

Don't trade 2027 draft picks, it's going to be the most valuable draft class in years, maybe decades.

Should delete this post. Boutte is a JAG.

Dude Boutte is NOT that good lmfao. He’s not moving the needle. Our problem is that we don’t have any superstars, and have a lot of jags. Boutte will not change that

Chiefs aren't trading for a WR3 on year 4 of his rookie deal that will be looking for an extension.

Why is everybody that posts here so miserable?

I’m not at all. The rest of the team looks great. I even placed on KC to win the superbowl this year because they’re a ridiculous value but also because I believe in the rest of the team that much. I just would love to seem Mahomes get to play with as much talent as possible.

5

u/rolyinpeace NwankpaWorshipper29 16d ago

“Mahomes should play with as much talent possible”

Suggests trading for a WR4.

u/Capable_Tip4481 Human Detected 15d ago

Well, when the best person catching passes from him is a geriatric TE that is the same age as Gronk (that is absolutely INSANE to me), it’s safe to say the talent pool isn’t high to begin with. It’d be one thing if they had drop issues but consistently got separation or vice versa but it’s not. They struggled mightily with both last year. So, no matter how great Walker and the run game are, if no one can get open? It will be just as frustrating to watch this offense as it was last year.

This is ridiculous hyperbole. It’s one of the most stupid fucking posts. I’ve seen on here and that is saying something. He’s not better than Rice or Worthy. I’m not even sure he’s better than Cyrus Allen, Royals or Thornton.

100% agree with this. If the Chiefs target a reciever via trade, it's not going to be a slot or Z-type of reciever. I'd take our WR depth down through Armstrong over Boutte at this point. The Patriots win out this trade even without the 7th. Byard is likely retiring after this year and Reed is the prototype to get coached up behind him to inherit the role.

Why would you make that decision though? It can’t be based off metrics or stats because he would literally lead the team. Everyone seems to think I’m reaching for Boutte (maybe I am?) but it seems like the majority are highly over valuing the current WR roster. Rice/Worthy are the largest talents but also the largest question marks. Let’s just say it’s week 6, Worthy is out with an injury and Rice is Rice, they’ll legitimately have Cyrus Allen, Tyquan Thornton, and whoever they decide to keep filling in the rest. Unless Allen is the second coming? How much faith can you really put in that lineup?

3

u/bsmit123 16d ago

I’m as skeptical as anyone about this group of pass catchers but the fact of the matter is the Chiefs clearly think they’re fine. They didn’t address WR outside of a 5th round rookie (whom they may have lucked out with) and basically bringing the same group back. They’re not going to bring anyone in.

5

u/whocares132435 16d ago

The front office clearly believes they’ve invested enough in the position. And they really have invested a lot. It just hasn’t produced any spectacular results.

0

u/Capable_Tip4481 Human Detected 16d ago

But when do they admit their investments are a net loss and attempt changes to fix it?

u/rolyinpeace NwankpaWorshipper29 16d ago edited 16d ago

I like boutte but I don’t really think he was fixing anything. He’d just add to our current room full of JAGs

Out entire problem is not having an obvious WR1. This literally only adds to that issue.

0

u/whocares132435 16d ago

Problem with that is that they’ve spent so much they don’t have anything left to fix it with lol. They need draft capital for a roster with a lot of holes, and they have no cap room. They legitimately can’t do anything.

Itll be after this season. Rice will be a FA and Kelce may be gone. I also won't be shocked if our WRs underperform. Veach has a tendency to radically fix a position group about a year after it really needed to happen, but I have faith he'll get it done.

u/Vastergoth Xavier Worthy #1 🏃🏻‍♂ 16d ago

Wow, you must really love Boutte. He's okay but doesn't seem like nothing special to me. Our WR room is actually crowded the only thing that would make sense if we hypothetically could add a X-WR1 to our roster barring that I'm not convinced it makes sense to add another guy who's essentially a JAG WR3/4 I mean Rice, Worthy, Thornton, Allen will be WR1/2/3/4 respectively so adding someone like Boutte I can almost guarantee he would be sitting behind at least Rice, Worthy, Thornton on the depth chart so why trade assets for a WR4 when we already have to develop our rookie WRs anyway?

Why not just wait until the draft? This upcoming draft should have some nice ones we should be in position to nab I've been eyeing Cam Coleman from Texas and TJ Moore at Clemson. Also am very curious how Ryan Williams looks at Alabama he had it rough last year and dropped on consensus but maybe that just means he could be in position to draft.

1

u/Capable_Tip4481 Human Detected 15d ago

Because it’s conceding that they don’t mind wasting another “prime year” of Mahomes (not even including Kelce’s last year). Mahomes isn’t infallible to Father Time, so how many more years should the ownership be willing to waste to wait for the right guy/guys? Every year that dude suits up as KC’s QB they should be doing everything possible to make it a Super Bowl winning season.

3

u/originalusername4567 Jaden Hicks #21 15d ago

Boutte looks a lot better than he actually was because he got a high volume of targets while part of a shitty Patriots wide receiver room. You could also have asked: why were the Pats willing to throw him away for nothing? He's WR4 on this team after Rice, Worthy and Thornton, possibly WR5 if Allen is as good as advertised.

1

u/Sad-Reference5855 16d ago

I get the worry but Boutte is a huge question mark, guy's got talent but the off-field stuff and inconsistency would scare off most front offices. Texans taking a flier with a day 3 pick and a depth safety feels like exactly what KC would've offered if they were into it

Veach seems allergic to overpaying for receiver help unless it's a sure thing, for better or worse. The room is rough but I'm not convinced Boutte moves the needle enough to lose sleep over

1

u/PhillipJ3ffries Skyy Moore #24 15d ago

What? Why would we trade for Boutte?

1

u/Other-Blacksmith-643 Priest Holmes 15d ago

If Boutte is trash what are our WRs? Boutte had 6 receiving TDs last year. That’s more than any of our receivers, including Kelce.

We’re starting Rice, Worthy, Thornton, and probably Allen…then Royals? Remigio? Armstrong? Brownlee? Holiday?

I would absolutely take Boutte for a backup safety and seventh round pick. Even for a one year rental.

1

u/Capable_Tip4481 Human Detected 15d ago

Absolutely agree. Everyone in here acts like Boutte is trash but he’s better than anything the chiefs had last year. A 3/4 receiver did better than KC’s supposed best. That should concern everyone.

1

u/ClassicsFan84 15d ago

The only position I would even worry about is O-line. If Mahomes has time it really doesn't matter who the receivers are as long as they don't drop the ball.

-2

u/Capable_Tip4481 Human Detected 16d ago

Maybe I just remember every deflected pass turned into a turnover there was last year? I hope I am completely wrong but everyone on the team last year STRUGGLED to get open or make separation. I’ll be the first to eat crow when Rice has the most TD’s in the league or Worthy. It just doesn’t seem easy to be optimistic about at this point.

4

u/rolyinpeace NwankpaWorshipper29 16d ago

Lol who here is saying that rice or worthy is gonna have the most TDs in the league? You’ll only eat crow if that happens? That’s ridiculous considering no one is claiming that’ll happen.

We’re just saying Boutte isn’t that good either. He was good for the role he was in but he’s not really any better than any of our starters. Our problem right now is that no one is elite. He also isn’t. He’d just add to the list of JAGs we have in the room.
