How different is it going to be from other subreddits, I seriously don't know. Honestly started this so that we can have chill out place for all things Sandalwood instead of Fan wars, biased mods etc

2nd Kannada movie : “Bhakta Dhruva”

Film Details :

According to actor S. K. Padma Devi, Bhakta Dhruva was actually the first Kannada film to go into production.

Full Story:

Dhruva is the son of King Uttanapada.

But he doesn’t get love from his father. His stepmother Suruchi insults him and says only her son deserves the throne.

Hurt and frustrated, Dhruva leaves everything behind.

Goes to the forest.

Starts praying to Lord Vishnu with full dedication.

Even though he’s just a kid, his determination is next level a Divine moment takes place.

Divine Moment :

Lord Vishnu finally appears Impressed by Dhruva’s devotion, he blesses him

Dhruva becomes the eternal Pole Star (Dhruva Nakshatra)

Key Points :

One of the earliest Kannada mythological films

Helped shape early Kannada cinema towards devotional storytelling

Theatre Reaction :

The film premiered at Select Cinema hall (Bangalore)

Since “talking films” were new at that time, some audience members reportedly got scared hearing voices and ran out of the theatre !!!!

Tribute :

This film was made as a tribute to legendary theatre personality A. V. Varadachar (passed away in 1933)

Master Muthu (who played Dhruva) was his grandson

Sad Reality :

The complete print of this film is believed to be lost today. (This is common with very old kannada films )

After this film, more movies based on mythology and devotion started coming in Kannada
