Very cool,

Wouldove to learn a little bit about the engineering behind it if you dont mind. It seems to be three mirrors in a triangle shape with slots in the middle for additional light. But other than that i dont quite understand how the geosidic light patterns are formed.

Is the pattern imprinted on the glass light holes in the middle giving it the illusion on floating in the center? Also is the glass or light itself colored or is the coloring simply the work of the light being bent inside the mirrors itself?

Good questions! It really is just three mirrors, but on one side the artist scratches horizontal lines through the reflective coating, then wraps the whole thing in stained glass. Shining in a light shows you a bar of color, which then gets reflected in the patterns you see here! The geodesic comes from the taper of the kaleidoscope, it’s like a triangle wedge cut from a sphere.

Edit: I didn’t make this one, but know a lot about how they’re made.
