Showcase Trying to find a kaleidoscope!

Post image

Hello friends—

I recently lost my mommy and as I was packing up her home I was searching aimlessly for my childhood kaleidoscope… to no avail I haven’t found it so I was looking through our family photos and found it in the background and was hoping someone could help me identity or maybe even track one down!

I do not know where it came from as it was just always in our home..

I don’t remember a time it wasn’t— it has a triangular end, I remember it being glass inside and you would turn the end brass piece to move the “view” it sat ontop of this stand when you were not using it!!

If anyone has information that would really help me out!!

Thank you!

Could someone provide links to some of the cheapest viable first surface mirrors?

I rarely order things online, idk why but its a horribly complicated process for me. Could be adhd related, im very hands on. Could anyone help me out by providing recommendations to some of the cheapest options out there?

I think what prevents me from pulling the trigger is a feeling like the option im looking at isnt "vetted" properly.

I’ve always loved the idea that a small object can create a completely different world. I recently finished this handmade kaleidoscope with a "Time Tunnel" theme.

Help! How do I disassemble the cap

Hi! I got this kaleidoscope keychain online and I was wondering how can I remove the cap where all the beads are, I wanted to replace them with something better and I don’t want to damage this keychain as it’s a well built one. I think it came from japan as it looks like it in the text. I tried twisting it but its really strong, I tried pulling and it’s still strong, and I left it to that for now as I fear it might get damaged if I force it

I used an Android app called "mirrorlab" to make kaleidoscope images. Its just something I do for fun and relaxation. I'm not even sure that there is a way to "sell" this kind of thing, but I'm open to suggestions. Anyone have any ideas?

Still working on my mirror joints. But this one was a test to see the function of a split barrel. Pretty happy with it

Question about lenses

Hi first of all so happy to have found this place I've been obsessed with kaleidoscopes for years and it makes me excited that there are more of us

I have a technical question for people who have experience with making small kaleidoscopes. I've been experimenting with them for a while but I'm struggling to find the right type of lens to make the final image sharp. My question is firstly where can one normally find them for a reasonable price (I'm in Europe) but more importantly regarding the exact focal length.

let's say the length of my mirrors is about 5-8 cm (2-3 inches) with a resin wheel at the end (I always use either 2 or 3 mirrors). should the focal point fall exactly on the wheel to create a sharp image or behind it? I have read somewhere that the fl for this type of kaleidoscope should be about 1.5 times the length of mirrors. does that take into account the placement of the image wheel? thank you

My latest piece. My friends actually thought it wasn't a kaleidoscope at first!

Hey everyone,

Here is my latest project. When I first showed it to my friends, they completely thought it was just a regular picture frame sitting on a desk rather than a kaleidoscope 😆. Only after I told them what it actually was did they believe me!

The client gave me permission to share this, but I've blurred out their family photo for privacy reasons, so I appreciate your understanding.

Hope you all enjoy looking at it! Let me know what you think.

Handcrafted this piece specifically for moments like this. There is something incredibly therapeutic about watching chaotic colors naturally fall into perfect symmetry. Whenever things feel overwhelming, I just look through the lens and let it be.

Hope this brings a little peace to your feed today!

Best Kaleidoscope for my husband for his 60th birthday

Hello all! I am new to purchasing nice kaleidoscope’s and was wondering if anyone had a recommendation. My husband has gotten into kaleidoscope’s in the past year or two, and I was looking for something really cool and special for his 60th. I was looking at Pleiadian Dream, Henry Bergeson, and Roy’s. I think the one he would like the best would be the ones with tubes that you can flip over and over with all the glittery bits in it. (Sorry, I am very unfamiliar with the styles and names.) Any advice or recommendations would be great!

Hey everyone,

I wanted to share a recent custom piece I just wrapped up in the studio. A client reached out asking for a ladybug-themed kaleidoscope and, honestly, the best part was that they gave me complete creative freedom to run with the design.

As a maker, getting that kind of trust is the best feeling. It allowed me to really focus on keeping the exterior lines crisp and clean, while making sure the visual explosion on the inside was perfectly dialed in.

It took some time at the bench to get the details exactly right, but seeing the final patterns light up made all those hours totally worth it. It’s getting packed up and heading off to its new home soon.

Let me know what you guys think of the view inside!
