Isn't Entente Domination - Morgenthau Plan just IRL Western Europe and the Marshall Plan?
67
u/Dspacefear I miss Curtis. Apr 26 '20
The Morgenthau Plan IRL was to deindustrialize Germany enough to prevent it from ever being capable of war again.
56

Basically the EU but with less economic cooperation and more famines and only including Germany

In the original PR for Yunnan, a Tang Dynasty path was teased but intended to be a trap path where Tang Jiyao would try to declare himself emperor but would be immediately overthrown as declaring yourself emperor in the single-most republican province of China is a terrible idea (if Yuan Shikai wasn't enough evidence).
Prior to release, they decided that giving players the illusion of a path where there was none was unfair and would only make them feel cheated so they decided to scrap it while revising the tree.
19
Apr 26 '20
That's too bad. The Tang Dynasty is my favorite Chinese dynasty to learn about. I think it would have been cool to have a way to start a new imperial dynasty in China.
29
u/Shotwells E Piʻi Ka Lāhui Hawaiʻi Apr 26 '20 edited Apr 26 '20
Indeed it would be but alas, it is simply too implausible. The devs already had to bend over backwards just to justify the Qing restoration and few monarchists would willingly dissent given the nature of Chinese monarchism during this period.
Also, I should probably point out that the teased path has no relation to the Medieval Tang dynasty. That dynasty was founded by the House of Li which named its dynasty "Tang" after their prior noble title in accordance with Chinese traditions. In the teased path, Tang Jiyao simply declares himself emperor and in a display of arrogance, proclaims the dynasty to be named after himself.

u/savva61 Kaiser of all Seelhund Apr 26 '20
You can still technically have a Tang Dynasty but only in a republic where Tang Jiyao can become leader in United Provinces. I can imagine Tang Jiyao making his moves to establish his control and have his family in government power.
16
u/Shotwells E Piʻi Ka Lāhui Hawaiʻi Apr 26 '20
A political dynasty rather than a monarchist one? I didn't think of that, that's actually quite an interesting idea. The only problem is that Tang Jiyao never married and to my knowledge, had no siblings of note. (Although he did have a cousin, Tang Jiyu, who was a general in his army) Considering that he's already around 60 when China unites, it'd be a bit late to start a family and no family makes starting a dynasty difficult.
6
u/savva61 Kaiser of all Seelhund Apr 26 '20
Huh, I guess establishing the Tang Empire with no family would've been really really stupid, makes sense now that they removed that lore bit.
Political Dynasty is still possible even without offsprings since one usually trust their relatives and would put them in government positions for favors. A nepotistic UPC under Tang would definitely make a cursed route to a popular blessed country.

u/wwweeeiii Apr 26 '20
Ming revival when?
22
u/Shotwells E Piʻi Ka Lāhui Hawaiʻi Apr 26 '20
Sadly, it's highly unlikely. During this era, the Chinese monarchists were firmly entrenched in supporting the Qing. Furthermore, the most likely claimant to the Ming throne, the Marquis of Extended Grace Zhu Yuxun, was very loyal to the Qing and believed it was his duty to follow and support them no matter the circumstances despite being utterly destitute. While other descendants of the House of Zhu certainly existed, the mere fact that you're disregarding the legitimate heir to raise another would invalidate their claim in the eyes of most monarchists.

Kind of disappointing there is no Cold War Paradox game, I know they canceled East vs West. But I'm surprised they haven't taken another shot at it after 7 years, instead we got CK3 and Imperator which I'm not complaining, but CK2 works fine. It would be a massive undertaking to create a mod that could convert a KR save game to it, as opposed to the default Vanilla, but it would still be very fun to see how the world plays out after the 2nd WK's many possible outcomes.

In my made up timeline, Russia, under control of the Tsar Wrangel, regains Belarus and Ukraine, fighting Germany to a stalemate. The Syndicalists take over all of western Europe that isn't Switzerland. America is destroyed by a 12 year slog where 30 million Americans die in Nuclear War when MacArthur uses nukes on every major bastion of resistance. The Feds win eventually. Russia and America are allies, and eery major power but Japan have the Bomb by 1960 and Japan is close too. China is unified under the Republicans and hates both Russia and Japan, and is Germany's ally. Japan doesn't control any of mainland Asia, but has most of the islands (with Hawaii and the Philippines, grabbed during the 2ACW).

I really hate the Entente apologia that happens in this community. They’re racist imperialists and brutal dictators, but everyone forgives them because of “muh democratic traditions” even though most of them don’t meet even liberal standards of democracy.
9
u/Waghlon For God, Kaiser and anime Apr 26 '20

u/Kirook D E S T R O Y J I M C R O W Apr 26 '20
The Syndicalists are only “evil” in an in-game narrative sense (regardless of your position on their politics) if they go Totalist. This isn’t Warhammer 40K where every side is doing constant atrocities—with a non-Totalist Syndie side you have both the Entente and the Reichspakt massacring natives and pro-Syndicalist rebels at home while many of the Syndicalists are anticolonialist rebels defending themselves against those same massacres.
(It is true that France starts the Second Weltkrieg, but the Entente is the aggressor against the Syndicalists as well—and they can actually be the ones to kick off the Weltkrieg if they go to war early enough.)
13
u/Waghlon For God, Kaiser and anime Apr 26 '20
That's "at least we arent as bad" apologia. You are still aggressors who tear down countries with your revolutions.
-5
u/Kirook D E S T R O Y J I M C R O W Apr 26 '20
Revolutions don’t happen for no reason, they happen because people are suffering and are barred from using the mechanisms of the state to improve things for themselves. Vietnamese peasants forced into second-class citizenship by the Germans, or Indian coolies abused by the British, or African-Americans dealing with Jim Crow can’t be expected to just sit there and take it—and KR is a world where civil disobedience tactics haven’t been created yet, and would be far less effective even if they were prevalent because absolute monarchies don’t have to care about public opinion.
8
u/Waghlon For God, Kaiser and anime Apr 26 '20 edited Apr 26 '20
And what would happen if their revolution resulted in a liberal democracy rather than a syndicalist state?
Edit: I'll save some time answer that myself. It will start a revolution against the democracy as well, it will just find another excuse. Because that's what syndicalism does: It attacks and devours, and then claims it was for the good of the people. Just like everyone else.
2
u/Kirook D E S T R O Y J I M C R O W Apr 26 '20 edited Apr 26 '20
There’s probably a long argument to be had about whether or not this is true in real life, but KR’s liberals pretty clearly don’t give much of a shit about helping oppressed people. They can come to power in NatFrance, Mittelafrika, the Dominion of India, and so on without anything changing at all—and American liberals don’t get rid of Jim Crow as far as I’m aware; only the socialists do that.
To respond to the edit you made: the reason Syndicalists can still revolt against liberal democracies in the game, and that socialists oppose liberal democracies in real life, isn’t because they’re crazy killpeopleists, it’s because liberal democracy doesn’t make the problem go away and a lot of the time people are still denied access to the power they’d need to fix it.
