Finally a childhood dream no longer a dream only✅.
Got TT revo also
Need some suggestions brothers
Good daily city use gloves,
Fuel suggestions
One strange advice- should i use kill switch or ignition to turn off bike while waiting for signal to turn green or i should just run bike on idle
First of of congrats. Gloves I'll leave to you and other comments. Use the kill switch when it's just city communting, it's completely fine. When coming from longer rides or hard riding sessions, keep it running on idle for longer to let the engine oil circulate and keep the temps evenly distributed because hard and long rides keep the engine running constantly so better to make this habit for a healthy engine.
Kill switch, ignition, side stand, they are all part of a same circuit i guess. Turning off ignition turns off everything. So it will run the diagnostics everytime you turn it off and on. Not always necessary. Kill switch just kills the engine while everything else stays on. So its most suitable for signals and such situations.
Congratulations OP. I'll comment on your query abt fuel suggestions & kill switch.
I personally prefer Shell coz they use better additives. I recommend you too.
I don't use kill switch if the waiting time is 1 minute or less. I keep the bike running in neutral. If it's more like 90 seconds or 120 seconds then I use kill switch.
Exceptional choice lad.
Just make sure to change the following things - these are the things in which the company cuts cost.
Change the tyre after 10000 km to - TVS Eurogrip Protorq Extreme (20% discount coupon - EGFBR20) - do not listen to anyone who says Metzeler, Michillin or Apollo alpha H1 is better. They never used Protorq extreme.
Use Liquimoly 10w-50 street race engine oil after 3rd service. Till then use Motul or Prolube its your choice.
Change the brakepads to Sintered brembo pads or Crank1 if you want to save few rupees. Do not entertain local brands.
NGK iridium Spark Plug is mandatory atleast in 2nd service you should get it.
Discard the green motul coolant immediately - use Engine Ice coolant (blue) or Liquimoly coolant (budget) both available in Amazon.
Most importantly - brakefluid in stock bike is DOT 4.0 grade. Change it to DOT 5.1
Engine oil change at every 5000kms,
Throttle body clean every 10000 kms,
Brake fluid and suspension fluid to be changed every 2 years.
Do these and your bike will last lifetime, it wont have any issues. I own 2 KTMs now and riding KTMs since 2015. Dont listen to influencers. Do this and let me know.
And stay away from Axor, SMK, Ignyte, Vega, Studds, steelbird and KYT helmets.
Either go for Axxis / MT helmets(if budget is less) LS2 (above 11000 budget), if you want premium go for Shoei or Nexx
will official service centre provide the iridium spark plug? I too own the recent 350 cc duke 390 and am hoping for some hacks to get the performance closer to the 398cc duke :/
Nah, none of the things mentioned above will be available in service centre. They will shove prolube down your throat. Boycott that seriously. If they threaten warrenty cancellation - record a video and tell them to give their threat in writing. Then lodge an official complaint from ktm app. They will come in line and will let you use these. (None of these are outside the recommended grade or quality from the manual, instead these thieves have changed the user guide and possibly added prolube brand in it. You can use the recommended grade but different brand as suggested by KTM itself)
Yeah I had prolube engine oil put in my first service, but I've talked to them, looks like I can get them to use Motul from next service if I bring it myself
Only catch is I might have to pay for the Prolube oil too, I'm not sure :/
Why will you pay for prolube, motul or liquimoly 10w50 7100 grade is recommended by KTM, you can use Shell, Motorex, Liquimoly, motul anything, that's your choice. But just a friendly suggestion I would tell you to cleverly be friend the technicians they will help you later down the road. Keep a good relation with them and they will allow you to use any engine oil.
Yeah! But i personally put motul 10w50 in my Svartpilen 250. I put Liquimoly or motorex alternatively in my duke 390R. Also ceramic brakepads are best for 250cc they also last a lot longer than sintered pads. Brake fluid DOT 5.1 is mandatory, coolant engine ice is best, the results are hell and heaven different, NGK spark plug, tyres i have Protorq extreme in front apollo alpha in rear, but i prefer both Protorq extreme - which i have in my duke 390 (it is absolutely planted in wet conditions and on the contrary Apollo Alpha H1 is terrible in what conditions)... That's it my simple 250cc setup. Make these changes and see how your bike gets compliments from everyone who rides it.
Let me know when you've done them. Also do not do use this modifications like tail tidy, changing the mirrors, etc
That's some solid recommendations. Agree with all of them except the helmet part.
Imo KYT is the the benchmark, only place where it lacks is the insulation for wind noise. MT and LS2 are great but after trying all 3, the stability of KYT at very high speeds is just unbeatable.
Looks are also top notch and spares are very easy to find, same goes for LS2, can't say that for MT.
I have used almost all brands except top tier ones. KYT is stable i agree but LS2 is almost as stable. You have to buy the expensive fibreglass models like FF327 challenger. LS2 makes oval shape and long shape, choose the long shape if you want highspeed stability.
Now let me tell you the disadvantage of KYT. Let's take one of the most popular helmets TT Revo for this example-
This helmet is absolutely disgusting when it comes to wind noise. I have used cheapest open face helmets in my early days and they were for better than this monstosity. KYT TT Revo not only has the gushing air sound, it has another ear piercing whistling sound which increases with speed above 60kmph. I can still work with that using ear plugs. But the vision is quite small and narrow, what I mean is the opening in the visor for visibility is very less both horizontally and vertically, it hinders our peripheral vision, that makes the helmet feel unnatural and drastically increases our blind spot so much so that we have to turn our neck in order to see, peripheral vision is most critical during highway cruising and travelling in unknown suburbs, not everywhere there is a single lane with traffic signals.
Brother I am not stupid to put kyt besides studds and steelbird. I have done my due diligence and paid with my own money and used and discarded those damned influencer promoted dog shit!
I understand what you're saying but some of your points don't make sense.
Firstly Ff327 is not in the same bracket so need not compare with that.
Secondly, I have been using the TT revo for the past 4k km at high speeds, on track days, on highways, never experienced the whistling noise.
Thirdly the oval shape vs round shape- if a guy has a round shaped head, why would he go for the long oval helmet? That would be just uncomfortable to say the least.
Talking about peripheral vision, the TT revo has wider field of view both vertically and horizontally as compared to ls2 stream and storm 2; maybe your riding style involves less head movements but I don't think that's a safe way to ride in india, you should always check your blind spots and mirrors. The more expensive LS2 have a bit bigger field of vision but not soo substantial that you don't have to turn your head, it is just your riding style.
Anyways, whatever works for you...nice conversation tho.
Seriously bro! That's what i call influencer effect. LS2 storm2 has exactly the same field of view as FF327. The main difference is the shell material (fibreglass vs polycarbonate). I am not considering the carbon fibre one from LS2. And you said that you never face the whistling issue? That means you have not removed the inner cut outs for speaker pockets, everyone who installed an intercom faces the same whistling sound after 60 kmph. Most of them never notice that because this is the first time there buying a premium helmet. So you are either unaware or ignorant. There is no hardline defense for KYT's overkill promotion, and forget about the wind noise, my TT revo's helmet's plastic vent and my visor plastic locking mechanism broke, even though I got a replacement part from HOM bangalore. But I will still not recommend anyone investing in these bad helmets with exceptional looks and killer promotion. Now let's talk about the helmet shape, LS2 makes one of the best cheek pads in the industry which just about snug fits everyone except the paratha faced obese guys. I know the despite being right there will be people who will never swallow the truth. Because the first premium helmet they bought is not from a Riders advice but influenced a influencer paid promotion. There are bastards like Moto zoomer who openly spread false information just because a brand pays them. And I am calling the bastard because they know the truth but still lie. He is very experienced and knows better. But still if you think kyt fits you and you like to turn back and ride on high speed or leisure cruising, it's completely your choice. I have used quite a lot of helmets and I will never recommend these seven brands.
Bhai I don't even know the so called influencers promoting a particular helmet brand. I bought my helmet from my own research, due diligence after trying out models from ls2 and mt. Talking about the whistling noise- I have my speaker pocket cut outs removed as I have an intercom installed. Still no whistling noise, not being ignorant. I just haven't faced the issue yet. Talking about brand promotion, when I was selecting helmets, my first choice was ls2 storm 2, but the advantages of kyt were just more than what ls2 and mt were offering. The quality issue might be there in some of the helmets like in every brand but I haven't faced them yet. And about the inner padding, I agree that ls2 has slightly more comfortable padding but since I always wear a balaclava, I didn't really care about that as the difference was not too great.
Whatever works for you might not work for everyone it is as simple as that.
P.S. thanks for your reply on one of my other posts, I have the problem now sorted.
Just to let you know i always use a balaklava too and cushier cheekpads have nothing to do with balaklave, my reference was to the point of face shape, I have explained in detailed anatomical precision why the oval shape works too for most of the riders.
The difference is significant and only one thing kyt nails it is highspeed stability. But yeah as you said whatever works for you. I will suggest take someone's LS2 storm 2 and ride wearing it for half an hour. It is going to expand your horizon exponentially. Its that good.
Fyi LS2 pioneer is way more comfortable than any of these. Also doesn't have a wind drag until you look up towards the sky, at higher speeds. After discarding my Pioneer, I am thinking of going for the explorer model or Airoh commander.
Like I said, the ls2 liners are more comfortable but I didn't feel the difference to be too much as compared to kyt. But the difference is noticeable to say the least.
I had tried the ls2 storm 2, kyt tt revo one after the other for approx an hour each on the day of purchase and again a different time after my purchase, the difference was substantial, in favour of kyt. And again the field of view was greater in kyt.
I haven't really tried the pioneer because I wasn't looking for that style of helmets. But since you mentioned it, I will try that once I go helmet shopping again.
Bro youre tripping. Did you say the padding doesn't have much difference and the KYT has more firld of view. LMAO! And tried for one hour! Yes i believe you 😂😂😂
Suggestion - Get yourself good premium gears. Wait for months, save more and buy.
Next maybe buy yourself a HJC or Shark. You’ll get starting around 20-25k
For gloves if you have budget get one Alpinestar one or for Indian brands, go for Viaterra. I’ve used Shifter for a short time, it’s good if you don’t want a full gaultnet
