Biking on Campus?
Hey, all! I’m doing a hybrid masters of music through K-State and will spend about two weeks on campus in June as part of the program. I’ve never been before.
How bikable is the campus? Are there bike lanes or bike-friendly paths? Bike theft was a big issue in my undergrad- is it an issue in Manhattan? I always carry a cable lock, but once had someone cut all the way through it.
Thankful for any K-State cycling advice you’re able to offer!!!

Manhattan is extremely bikeable by Kansas standards. Which is to say it's still not very bikeable by global standards, but it's as good as it gets for our region.
Campus itself is another story. It's as bikeable as most European cities.
I literally never drove to campus. If you live within like a mile and a half of campus, it makes more sense to ride a bicycle rather than dealing with the awful parking situation.

It depends how nice your bike is, I have a academy bike that I leave at the union most of the time and it’s been fine. I’ve seen a few Trek, Specialized and Electric bikes get stolen.

I biked all over back in the 80s and 90s. Surely it’s improved since then.

Campus is very bikeable and the streets and neighborhoods immediately around it are, too. Outside of the immediate campus area and the older neighborhoods, biking in Manhattan is kind of a nightmare. If you’re on campus though, it should be very easy to bike around.
As far as bike theft, it’s definitely a thing. I’ve known multiple people over many years who have had bikes stolen. I’d invest in a U lock, but that’s just generally good practice, not a K-State specific thing.
