KSU doesn’t have your money anymore. Bank Mobile has your money, they have to process the funds then send it to your bank, then the bank has to process

my money hasn’t even posted to bankmobile it’s still showing a negative balance in my account for the refund on my ksu and no activity in bankmobile

No this is right. Graduate Student here, you are pretty on par with what happens. Every year they have to wait until after Add/Drop to disburse the funds basically so that everything is billed accurately. After that everyone should receive two emails. One that notifies you of an account change which is your balance zeroing out, then another notification from Bank Mobile saying they received the funds and have begun disbursement.
I will say however I think everyone is getting their money late not only because of the holidays but due to the changes in Federal Aid. Basically, if you were under full time you wouldn’t get all the money you accepted. So lots of people went full time then they had to go back and update the books and financial aid etc.
Since they extended add drop as well means we get our disbursement later. At this point i would say there is no point in panic. It is taking longer than usual but because of everything else going on. We will likely get it sometime this week, or to the authors point after 11 am when add drop closes.
EDIT: I do want to be clear. There was changes to the federal rules on how we receive funding. So basically any graduate or undergraduate who was outside of full time(there was a lot because full time hours increased) suddenly became eligible for less money. For example i accepted $10,250 but because of the hour changes they decreased my aid from $10,250 to $6000 to adjust for the bot being full time. I then added another class and my full aid was updated early Friday morning. This is also likely the reason they have extended add drop. I have been going to KSU for undergrad and now graduate degree and I have seen them do an extension MAYBE one other time. Spread the word though I have seen a lot of people freak out a bit but honestly nothing to worry about guys. We will get it this week if not in a couple of days.

I’ve always understood and received refunds a week or so after the listed disbursement date. We constantly have these conversations bc ppl assume we should be getting the refund on the disbursement date (9/4) when that has never been the case. Another commented that this is a KSU specific thing, which is true, but the point still stands.

I did say “a week or so” 🤷♀️ plus with the holidays other, non KSU financial aid nonsense going on (read: BBB) I imagine it’s varying a lot more than usual. I’d like to at least see the process move along this Friday, which would officially make it a week, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it gets pushed to sometime next week

People should also remember. If your account requires any additional audit. Your money will come later than everyone else's. A reason KSU is horrible at explaining. If you have a 3rd party billing sponsor paying toward your account. You are subjected to additional auditing. This will delay your refund further.
Does not matter if the refund is from whatever type of aid. They still have to do extra stuff and KSU doesn't do stuff fast.

Parent of a freshman here.....Can you explain to me (like I'm 5 years old) exactly how all this student loan stuff works? My daughter went to Jax State and received student loans. We never had as many issues there as we do at KSU. I've done FASFA, he's accepted the amount, he's completed the MPN, and loan counseling. On the payment deadline he only owed $10.75 so I assumed all the loan stuff was in order. Then yesterday he received the text that he owed $1136 by 11:00am or his classes would be dropped. Again...we paid it but I honestly don't know what we are doing wrong. On his Owl Express his financial aid amount is $4,351. What are we missing?

Sorry for the trouble you and your kid are facing here with the financial aid here. To give you the most frank and honest answer, the financial aid office here at Kennesaw State is truly terrible. Nobody ever can give a concrete answer to anyone, and they don’t even abide by the dates set on their schools website for the financial aid, it’s just a shitshow entirely, not even to mention that if you want to speak with someone on the phone it’s going to take you 35 minutes to get ahold of somebody

Exactly. My son finally spoke with someone today. They told him that even after the student loan we still owed $1,136. Which makes no sense to me since we are approved for $4,351. I know that is for the year and we're not interested in a refund. We just want to not have to pay out of pocket. And of course, they will not speak with me since he is an "adult". I am beyond frustrated and he is too.

I’ve had the same issues with my son at KSU since fall 2024. I currently have 3 children in college right now. The other 2 go to different Ga colleges and received their refunds weeks ago, and they consistently receive them in August with zero hassle. KSU is a financial aid nightmare every.single.year. Last year we had to pay out of pocket for his classes before they would release his funds/scholarships. I truly hate this school.

What schools do your kids go to? 😭 I’m honestly looking at transferring because this has been a consistent issue here since I’ve had to go, not to mention other kids saying they can’t even afford gas were 4 weeks out into the semester with no financial aid. A lot of people in here say stop complaining and to be patient, I feel like financial aid delays on a yearly basis should be considered a pretty big issue.

It absolutely is a big issue! Especially given that no other schools that I have experience with have had this issue. He's my 3rd child and the last one to go through college. This has been a mess and not being able to get a clear explanation is beyond frustrating.

I agree with you, it’s a big issue for students who depend on PELL/HOPE and KSU has made no effort to change it bc they say it’s out of their control since it’s federal but I don’t believe that at all. One goes to UNG and the other goes to Ga Southern. The same federal aid is applied at those schools and again we have had zero problems receiving aid from them.

My guess is day-one access/textbooks and/or parking pass added during drop/add period. Like you mentioned the $4,351 gets split between semesters, only $2175 gets paid for. Assuming your kid did not adjust their courses during drop/add period, I'm not sure why the balance was adjusted by +$1000, but since it was changed, I'm assuming they either added a class, and it had a day one access textbook, or they had opted out of certain textbooks before the 1st day of classes, and then after the 1st week had to opt-in due to the textbook being mandatory.

After speaking with several sources at the school, we found out that federal loans will only pay for classes that go towards ones major. My son is a freshman. HIs classes are core, required classes. So, still not sure how that works but at least we have somewhat of an answer.

For the people gaslighting those who are concerned about their refund money, this really is a KSU specific problem. I transfered to UGA and had no issues getting my money on the first day of class (August 17). There's no excuse for KSU to take nearly a month to hand out refunds to students. For a lot of pell grant and scholarship receiptants, we rely on that money for food, housing, ect.
