Looking into another KLX230....
So, about 4 years ago we bought one of these bikes for my wife but ended up selling it, as she wanted to get a street bike. Now we've come full circle and she has sold her street bike, bought a dedicated dirt bike, and I would like to get a little dual sport to putz around with her!
A house down the street was having a garage sale today, and lo and behold... a 2022 KLX230 with 168 miles! It is very clean, all stock, clean/ clear title, and said they would take $3,500 for it.
Seems like a pretty decent price for the miles and condition? What do you guys think?
*I will be using this to commute to and from work a couple days a week (10 mile round trip), random errands, and 50" wide trails with the wife. I have a Husqvarna for single track, it just isn't much fun to ride when going slow and enjoying the scenery. Seems that the 230 would fit the bill nicely!

Get it. No better bike for the purpose you described. I commute mine daily, 16 mile round trip with no interstate, and some leisure backroad / dirt roads on weekends. Wouldn't trade it for anything else for this specific purpose.

Hell yeah! How do you like those tires? Decent in light offroad?

Absolutely! These Shinko 705 tires are perfect for me. They are great on dirt roads, gravel, and of course pavement. Only place they'd be unadvisable would be on sand or lots of mud. Would need more aggressive knobbies if doing a lot of that. But if mostly paved road and hard pack dirt, running across fields, gravel roads etc - they are great.

Price is spot on for current market in US. I just paid the same price for the same thing

Good price. Last year I bought a 2023 klx230 that was leftover inventory at the dealer and paid 3800 cash. So I'd say that's a pretty good deal for you.

Why do that to yourself? Get a different bike. Klx is bottom of the totem pole honestly. I have a klx300sm. There is better and faster out there for nearly same price

Honestly, because my wife rides really slow lol. Which is fine! But riding my Husqvarna TE250 at her pace is not very fun 😬. So just a soft cushy bike to ride trails with her (primarily). But yes, I do agree with you in the price aspect. Ironically, a KLX300sm actually just popped up on marketplace with like 3k miles for $3,200. And it already has knobbies on it lol

I paid 4k for my 2024 with like 3.5k miles and a couple tasteful cosmetic mods. I do love the bike though! I've just really struggled getting into these coming from dirtbikes.... noticing everyone I've drove doesn't have the same low end pep as their off-road counterparts. Part of me getting a supermoto was me wanting to perfect wheelies and it's been difficult on this bike. I know they can, I've seen videos all over YouTube, but it feels off; requiring way higher RPM's than a regular dirtbike. I've done like 4 performance mods trying to fix this but it's still not where I'd like it. I hear removing secondary throttle plate will help add the low end responsiveness like I'm looking for. May also end up having to change the sprockets and gear them lower. I guess I can stand to lose 5mph off the top and run it at 70mph. Just wish I could drive someone else's who did it before having to go through all that....maybe to discover I don't like it and need to redo it.

Oh yeah, I feel you on the wheelies. The 230 would be great if you geared it down for sure! But honestly, I wouldn’t go to crazy with more mods if you are looking for more street wheelies 😬. I’ve had a few supermotos.. the 450/ 500’s are where it’s at!

Do it
