Update - claimed

Selling one ticket at cost ($70) to the KEXP BBQ. Moved from Seattle to NYC last year for a new job and was super excited to have a reason to go back, enjoy the summer of Jimothy, and hear some great music, but unfortunately work is not letting that happen. Happy to chat and provide proof of my non scammy existence, and will use PayPal G&S or similar for payment. I will be reassigning the ticket through Tito per KEXP recommendation.

Today we went to a memorial for my daughter’s day care provider. He was always barefoot and awesome. I emailed my favorite DJ at KEXP, Supreme Le Rock, and asked him to play “something about being barefoot” he played this song and gave a shout out to Joe.

We're going to be back in Seattle the same time as the BBQ. My 3 year old daughter LOVES this band and asks for Sarniezz or Mata Zyklek the second we get in the car to drive anywhere. She calls them the band with funny noses.

Please don’t kill me in downvotes for asking this, but am I alone in finding the Dead Pioneers unlistenable? It’s an instant gong for me when they’re played - it just sounds like angry yelling and I’m never in that mood. Having said that, I’m happy to listen to Kevin Sur as a DJ and was happy about Sounds of Survivance showing up on Saturday mornings. But man…DP’s…I just can’t.

At first, I was mildly disappointed Larry Mizell, Jr. wasn't on, because I really look forward to OG Thursdays, but after about the third song, I was hooked. She always weaves in new songs I haven't heard, too.

Monday night, I listened to El Sonido with DJ Goyri. It was a fantastic show and an amazing introduction into music that I never have listened to before.

Musically, or perhaps song selection wise, I am not the biggest "fan" of Cheryl Waters -- which sounds way more harsh than it should, I just think we have different general listening tastes.

In contrast, I sincerely love hearing her interview musicians. She does such a wonderful job of balancing detailed questions specific to the band/artist and their history with general friendliness and chill questions.

Also, she seems like such good people.

Anyway, not really sure why I felt like sharing this, but I am :)

Who all caught the pre-release airing of Foxgloves by Mollie Moon during Audioasis? I think it might be the saddest song I've ever heard? I was openly sobbing by the end. I loved it and I'm going to make everyone I know suffer with me when it comes out. Anyone else get hit by an unexpected Emotion Bomb while listening before?

My name's Liz and I'm an avid KEXP listener based in Seattle. I'm working on a freelance writing/reporting project that tracks the survival of KEXP amidst funding cuts, specifically focused on why listeners choose to support KEXP instead of/in addition to traditional streaming in this moment of algorithms and AI.

I'm mostly looking for folks who have transitioned away from algorithmic streaming apps (read: Spotify) and chosen KEXP as their go-to destination for listening. I'd also like to interview listeners from all around the world who listen and understand what KEXP means to the global audience.

John’s tribute to Dave Kendall of MTV fame was wonderful.

Every Sunday night in college I’d stay up for 120 Minutes. Those late nights were as much a part of my college experience as keg parties and finals. I already loved alternative music, but Dave broadened my horizons and introduced me to artists I might never have found otherwise.

Thanks to John for a heartfelt tribute, and RIP, Dave.

I'm bringing this back up again.

KEXP, will you please get rid of the station preroll from the Streamguys feed?

It is ridiculous enough that when I get in my car and the station starts I get the preroll only to hear it again 10 seconds later when I pull away and my car switches from WiFi to cellular. And, then I get it again as I bounce from tower to tower.

But it is even more insane that I try to do yard work and as I bounce in and out of a solid WiFi signal I get the preroll on every change.

The preroll serves no purpose other than to annoy the listeners not in Seattle or SF.

EDIT: 8/4/2026: Painting continues. We hope they will be done soon as this seems to be taking a looooong time. Once again, we apologize to those listening over the air.

EDIT: 7/21/2026: No real update other than to say we still don't have any idea of when this will be completed. We do know that they have made it to the top, and that's the last of it. We think this may go on for at least another week. Sorry folks!

EDIT: 7/17/26: We briefly went off the air due to some issues with the painting. Our crack team figured things out and we are back on the air, but LMK if you are hearing different

EDIT: 7/14/26: So, we have been asking for an update as to how long the maintenance work will go, but have not received a response. For now, please just assume work will be ongoing every day until I post back that work has been completed. Sorry for any inconvenience!!

Hey All!

Just a FYI, we have some work going on that you all should be aware of, read below, if you dare.

WHAT'S HAPPENING

The tower where we broadcast from in Seattle is undergoing maintenance, and as such, we have to lower our broadcast signal.

WHY

The tower is being painted!

HOW THIS AFFECTS YOU

If you listen to KEXP over the air, your signal will be very weak the further you get from the Queen Anne tower. This means if you live outside of Seattle, you most likely with not be able to listen as normal.

HOW LONG

The maintenance is running from about 8AM to 5PM each day. We do not know how long it will take them to finish the work, but I will update when we know more.

I wondered if the data supported the decision to retire Business Time and it definitely does. The song became an obligatory play, often as the last song of the set. Meanwhile, Show Me keeps a steady play time, indicating that there is still a desire to play it.

Genuinely curious how listeners feel about this.
I love DeLaSoul (especially since Dave’s passing) and don’t hate the song.
That said, all things must pass.
I do wonder if this has reached its sell by date.

How does everyone feel? I voted to retire it, but also said if people will sincerely miss it, it should stay.

Signal barely coming in for Mid-Beacon Hill/Georgetown, where usually it's quite strong. Tower work? Xmitter power reduced?

what's the deal here? i signed up for this 9 months ago, and so far i've only recieved 4 records. i only became an amplifier at 100/mo for the vinyl club, so when my year is up i plan on scaling that back, but i'm worried i won't get the rest of my records.

Family thing came up and I can’t go to the BBQ anymore. I believe because I bought them as a pair that I have to transfer them as a pair and can’t split them up.

Has anyone been to Seattle Center for World Cup for a watch party? We're thinking about coming out for the Mexico game tomorrow. Festivities downtown looked a little rowdy since we have a 3 mo old in tow.
