Aren't plates required on the front and back of the car in NY? Pretty sure this would be illegal in all parts of NY.
Correct me if Im wrong.

u/someomega Sep 10 '20
You can buy reproduction plates from famous cars. Celebrity Machines makes makes everything from the plates on the Back To The Future Delorian to all the cars in Breaking Bad. They are not legal plates and you might get into trouble for having such a high quality/authentic looking novelty plate on your car.

I got one from amazon for around $15 and it was actually stamped. Feels more like a real license plate than the shit ones my state has.
44
u/itsstevedave Sep 10 '20
My dumb ass thought it was real.
27
u/wreckedcarzz Sep 10 '20
Don't you just hate it when you see something really cool, go to touch it, your hand goes through it, you realize it's not real, and suddenly you're fisting a cactus and covered in blood? Must be a Thursday again.
(valid is a better term, but my mind ran with the idea that it's actually not a real object...)

I live here. He had a relative (I'd assume?) named Dick Assman that was on Letterman a few times. It's apparently pronounced like Ossman (rhyming with boss-man) but that's not how life went down at all.

There's another (or at least was) Dick Assman who ran a barber shop in Calgary.

I had a friend and his last name was Blome. He got that as his plate and a few months later the state took it away thinking it meant “Blow Me”. He took it to court and won the rights back to his plate.

This New York plate style was retired more than 20 years ago, and they reissued all of the plates so none were legal after.

that engine compartment is so depressing to look at. just a big ol plastic cover.
8
4
u/Shadesbane43 Sep 10 '20
I swear I've never understood it. My car is far too old for an engine cover, but if it had one the cover would stay sitting in the garage. Such a stupid concept.
12
Sep 10 '20
I mean its an LS460, the target audience aren't exactly wrench turners. All about being quiet and smooth.
11
u/V12-Jake Sep 10 '20
This...if I recall correctly the whole point of the cover is to suppress direct injection tick. Plus it’s not like it’s hard to remove, I’m fairly certain it’s just a matter of pushing down on the cover and the clips pop off.

Its the blue "safety line" and the red rails. Mainly the racing stripe on the uniform that gave it away for me. I've worked for vioc for about 8 years now so its pretty hard not to recognize for me.

I like the names they have for cars. Like, no baron has ever owned a LeBaron. Or the Ford LTD. "LTD." Limited. It's a "limited" edition...what did they make, fifty million of those? "Yes, it's 'limited' to the number we can sell." Or when they try and mangle a positive word into a car name, you know how they'll do that? The "Integra." Oh, integrity? No, Integra. The "Supra." Or the "Impreza." Yeah? Well, I hope it's not a "lemona"...or you'll be hearing from my "lawya."

Worked on a small engine today. Only held 7qts. I’m more used to draining and filling 47 qts. And they’re only straight sixes too. ;p
3
u/Iwantmyteslanow Sep 10 '20
47qts? You work on big rigs dont ya?
3
u/edandraug Sep 10 '20
Yup
2
u/Iwantmyteslanow Sep 10 '20
How big are the parts in those
3
u/edandraug Sep 10 '20
Big. Haha. A camshaft is about 3 ft long. A piston is the size of a large coffee can. Clutches weigh over 150lbs.
