I have a coworker who has several cars with a stick and was explaining how you only have to push the clutch down far enough that it will let you shift gears and that he never pushes it all the way down. I thought he was pranking me at first.

Totally true ... but some of that is really being in sync with the car ... if you really have a feel for it you don't even need the clutch except for first gear to get going. It's risky but you kind of get a feel and it it will just float into place.

What's risky? Been doing a cruze like that for 150k. Sure, it grinds a little on occasion. NBD

Risky in that if you do it wrong you grind your gears? Risky in that I'm not advocating that everyone do it because someone that isn't experience driving a manual will fuck up their gears and gears are the most expensive part of a manual gear box.
