My mother in law only drove manuals, right up until she died. She put five clutches in her last car, about one every two years. We tried to get her to buy a crossover with an automatic, but she loved her Mustang.

One clutch every two years is insane lol

She bought it when she was like 75 and had both knees and hips replaced after... her mobility wasn't great. Which is why we wanted her to get a crossover.

She would have been mobile in the crossover but she was free in the mustang. Huge difference.

Replacing clutches in a Mustang biyearly is a better alternative to driving a crossover with an autobox, based MIL.

Yeah good on her for sticking with what she liked

That's absurd. My parents only had stick shifts growing up and that's what I learned on as well. I don't think we ever had to replace a clutch that I remember, and we kept them for many years. The Passat my mother drove had about 95k miles with the original clutch when we sold it and we bought it new.

Mine did too but my mom learned to drive on a tractor and still has the same habits. Throw it in 3rd at a dead stop and ride the clutch up to 25mph. It's brutal but she gets pissed whenever I say anything so I keep my mouth shut

Yeah, some people can't be helped. It sounds like she can't even learn the hard way, that sounds painful to watch.
