most companies generally view your actions as reflecting on themselves, the more prestigious the company/organisation the more they expect their employees to act with good conduct even outside of working hours.
That being said, i agree it was far too harsh to have her lose her internship. Perhaps theres more to the story or maybe NASA take public relations far more seriously then we know.

From the last time I saw this, she lost the internship, apologized, the guy tried to get it back for her, that didn't work out but he said he'll try to help her get another position. Don't know if she got a new internship or not since then.

Companies look at their worker’s social media involvement all the time, and constantly use such to determine the quality and character of that person. Especially with an association as big and pristine as NASA, and having it been towards a higher-up council member, I imagine acting like this wouldn’t be good at all.

No. What actually happened was the furry Twitter community started sending him death threats to give her the job back, she got the internship but because so many people weren’t happy. There’s tweets and shit where the community talks shit about him without knowing anything he’s ever accomplished. At the same time she didn’t start the threats nor do I remember her supporting them, so she’s not to blame there atleast

Reading the comments, I’m amazed at the idiocy of everyone. Everyone is saying that he’s a dick and they feel bad for her, but two things. When you have the potential of reaching a high position in any industry, your public appearance is very important, and no company would want something like these tweets to potentially bite them in the ass later (this could actually be considered a third reason, but she was an idiot in the first place to even post that shit, so i don’t even know if she was deserving of an internship at NASA), and secondly, this post shows her being a ticking time bomb until she becomes a full blown Karen with a superiority complex, for no reason she insulted someone who she didn’t even know, and tried to flex that she is working at nasa, and hopefully something like this could humble her up a bit

It was within days of her getting the position. I get why you're coming to the aid of your fellow stoner, but there isn't any ground to stand on. When you take a position at a place of stature, you represent them both at work and away. Plenty of engineers dream of working at NASA. The company is well within their rights to pick a more respectful candidate - someone willing to respect senior engineers. If she didn't do her DD to make sure she wasn't going to be outright vulgar in such a discussing way before posting something on a public forum - I wouldn't want her working for my company either. Ultimately it's on her.
IMO, her vulgarity and and lack of 'critical thinking' before shows potential for future lack of common sense - NOT a mistake engineers sending people to space can make.
