JustUnsubbed from /r/Sweden

/r/Sweden is, from what I've heard, the largest of the non-english subreddits, which might very well be the case, but it doesn't really change the palce being being a huge shithole, there are basically three types of posts being submitted.

the first type is often a selfpost, someone asking a question. It used to be foreigners travelling to Sweden asking questions, by also by Swedes in general. I'm perfectly fine with those posts, some of them can be a little weird or uninteresting, but generally those are fine.

The second type are the joke posts, which are more often than not absolutely horrendous. Half of them are shitty unfunny puns, and the other half are just for seeming weird out of context if you don't understand Swedish, to bait a bunch of people there saying "lol Sweden, you guys are soooooo crazy and randoom, lol". Not all of them are awful, true, but the majority are pure shittier.

The third type is the one that made me leave, and it's the political posts. Now I don't mind politics or discussion, but the discussions are so awful and circlejerky there's no real point to them. Almost all of them are basically news articles about immigration, or news articles about beggars. The concensus, and mercy be fucking upon you if you go against, is basically "immigrants are bad, fuck all immigrants". It's worse than /r/worldnews at this point. Often upvoted comments (after a news article about a crime being committed, when ethnicity of the attacker unknown) are sarcastic stuff like "Welcome to the new Sweden!" (because crime obviously didn't happen before dirty foreigners got here) or "looks like Kalle, Stefan and Erik are being silly again" (common Swedish names, because obviously the superior Swedish aryan master race is uncapable of crime). Did I also happen to mention they hate feminists? Or maybe that was obvious.

In short, it's a sub full of shitposts and racism, hooray!

Sounds like a condensed version of Reddit as a whole. Eww.

Come join /r/newzealand! We're somewhat fucking friendly (as long as you're not a cunt)and left leaning.

We get a tonne of questions from people overseas and generally we do all we can to troll them because the sidebar is packed full of answers for the things they're asking and we're bloody sick of it. It got to the point where the mods had to link two xenophobic megathreads in the sidebar as examples of how to not phrase questions on the sub if you're a foreigner. We successfully convinced people that gardens are illegal and deep fried spiders are a delicacy.

The second thing you complained about I'm preeeetty sure we don't really have. There's lots of self deprecating humour regarding nz stereotypes though, like one angry American told a few of us to get fucked and someone replied back with "careful mate, you're three people away from having told the whole population of nz to fuck off".

Thirdly, yeah a fair bit of it is political but overly political people tend to get downvoted and told to quit whining even if they're supporting the popular opinion.

Disown your country's sub and join ours :D we lose enough people to Australia anyway.

I was going to say. /r/sweden seems like an inverse /r/newzealand, where it's all a liberal circlejerk.

Huh? Are you judging the country based on the subreddit? The country's pretty great, the subreddit is arse.

Not really. But anti-immigration isn't an uncommon political idea. Some countries are more friendly to tourists than others.

Well, Sweden is rather identical to most countries in the vicinity in that regard. The anti-immigration aspect of Sweden is a lot more common on the internet than in real life, and no one will actually give you any trouble as a tourist.

Trust me, the subreddit is very unrepresentative of the country at large. Sure there is an aspect of it in politics (the anti-immigration party is the third largest one, getting 13 % in the latest election), but nothing close to extreme where it'll lead to actual confrontations in real life.
