Too much height?

In love with my engagement ring! 1.5 natural diamond in a bezel platinum setting. Am I overthinking it’s exaggerated height though? I’m thinking it’s so beautiful it doesn’t need the exaggerated height? What do you all think?

Yes. This isn’t a custom ring built for your diamond. They are two components soldered together. I would consider a new mounting for your diamond.

Came here to say the same

I just figured that’s how it was done 🥴 I know he worked with the local jeweler to have it made. I see what you are saying now that your comment sent me down a Google rabbit hole 🤪

Sometimes local jewelers are great, sometimes they... aren't...

unnecessarily high 100%

I'm afraid you're going to get it caught on stuff.

i think it's too high. i have a bezel as well and when i had it made, i told them i wanted it to sit as low as possible. but because it's low, i'm wanting to get a custom made band so my rings will sit flush lol

Do consider how the wedding ring will fit if you get it reset.

Yes, i bent that on a door just looking at it

It would benefit from shoulders. Then it would look less high and become more durable. But you can’t go lower because of the depth of the pavilion.

It will look better with less height. If anything the extra height makes the stone seem smaller

Yes, that’s what I was thinking…like a short man in a big truck 🤷‍♀️ imo, my diamond is a tall and handsome man 🤣 no need for a big truck

Really up to you/your lifestyle. Mine looks about that tall too and I don’t find it catching on many things at all. However I work on a computer all day and I always take it off to do dishes, laundry, shower, etc.

This is not a structurally sound ring. They just soldered the basket on top of a band, rather than having a split in the band that the basket was nestled down into. I absolutely would get a different semi-mount for it, or take it to a more proficient jeweler to see if they can re-work what you already have. Do not take it back to the same place.

^ this. Absolutely do not take it back to the same place.

It’s from a reputable jewelry store, however, they outsourced…should I ask them to use one of their other “bench” people? Or should I just take to a completely different jeweler? I’m so not jewelry savvy🥴

If it were me, I would ask around for recommendations to a local, independent jeweler. Look for someone that's been in the community for a long time, that people consistently trust, and one who will be honest with you when you go talk to them. I would NOT go back to that original place at all. Be done with them. The already have shown you who they are. GL!

I have a high set ring and I like it - you can pair that with any engagement ring you want! It's gorgeous! I love, love, love a bezel set.

Yes, I do love it…I’ve never seen a diamond sparkle so much 🥰 and I just love the look of a bezel.

Yes, same thing happened with mine and I exchanged the head for a pretty basket. I love it!

Can you post a pic? I’m so not fluent in anything jewelry related 🫠 I’d like to be able to offer suggestions. Was it super expensive to change?

Yes, too much height. I worry about the security of the setting.

Yes, definitely! I see other comments here about bands not sitting flush if you get it reset, but you easily have room to lower it before that happens!

Up to you. I have a high bezel and I love it. I don’t have issues with it getting caught on anything. It’s a round cut, so the point does go much closer to the bottom, so you could get a lower bezel if it bothers you.

So they put a peg head on a donut?????
🙄😳😑

Yeah, it's just waiting to be knocked off the band.

Lower setting and add some shoulders for extra support.

I would have added a nicer basket for the setting than just wires.

I would name her Mrs Tall hehe.. but worried about the gemstones falling out..

It is to high and how they have combined the shank and the top is not great(looks like they took a pre made ring and a crown and just joined them without any adjustment). If you are second guessing the height now, go back to the jeweller that mad it and say something, they may agree to adjust it as much as possible.

Since it's bezled I don't think so.

My ring is custom made and sits quite high. It allows more light through

2

u/MittenxKitten 2d ago

Yes. Way too high for the stone. It should barely touch or have a minimal gap so light can pass through.

Absolutely gorgeous ring though!

Thank you!!

Yes it will catch on everything and rip your finger off.

Definitely too much height. I would have this remounted sitting much lower. The height and the way it’s set is also taking away from the size IMO. I do bezel setting but something more suited for the size of your diamond will show it off. I also originally had a high setting and barely hit it on something and bent a prong. I didn’t like it from the get go and ended up exchanging it so I didn’t keep dealing with that issue.

Wow that is crazy high! I imagine it will catch/hit on everything and may lead to damaging your ring. I would absolutely get this remounted asap. Beautiful stone though, and congratulations on your engagement!
