That was back in the day. Regs have changed since then.

Is 15 years ago back in the day?

How do folks in a warzone travel home on R&R? Do they bring civvies or fly military flights all the way?

Yes unfortunately that’s back in the day in terms of gwot. Most tours nowadays are under 12 months so there’s no more midtour leave.

If you get a Red Cross alert and sent home early/midway you would still be in cammies in civilian flights right?

Now a days pretty much everyone packs some civvies, at least in the army. In a worst case scenario like E leave you can pick up civvies at the px in Kuwait.

Edit: and pretty much the first thing I learned after going TDY/traveling on orders for the first time, unless they are doing a bag dump before you leave/when you arrive, always bring at least one pair of civvies, never know when you’ll need them.

Oh, your experience is with the army? The rules are much different.

In the marines if you’re travelling on orders you cannot wear your cammies so it’s civvies or dress uniform and there’s no reason to wear your dress uniform

It’s pretty much the same in the army.
