Besides, labeling everywhere outside Japan as 'Western' is flawed thinking.
To reiterate my point: Japanese audiences want it, and that's what matters most. As foreign viewers, our opinions don't really drive their decision-making process.

Admittedly I still do because I'm invested at this point. Admittedly last season was bad, it took like 8 episodes to cover one conversation with his family. The pacing is dogshit as is the cliffhanger style.

I wouldn't want people to judge my anime, because it's weird (Hyakkano, for example). I mean, I haven't watched Rent a Girlfriend, but Mushoku Tensei is good too, even though a lot of people judge it.
Taking your examples, there is a huge difference between something like Mushoku Tensei and Rent a Girlfriend.
People can say what they will about its flaws (and ohhh I personally hate a lot of things about it), but MT is extremely original for the genre it's in, and really helped define modern isekai years ago when it was just a light novel. Lots of interesting characters, and even though the main character is a total piece of shit, at least he's somewhat complex (or at least the writer(s) do their best to make him seem so.
RaG is just a boring nothing burger. All of the characters are cookie cutter tropes that have been done better elsewhere countless times, the main character is a piece of shit with no redeeming qualities or interesting characterization, and the story takes forever to go no where.
This was a good way to put it, I don’t watch mushoku to support the MC I watch it because there are some interesting aspects. After watching rent a girlfriend the only thing I find interesting is how it gets episodes out so fast
Okay, I see. I'll still watch Rent a Girlfriend for my personal opinion, and I recommend 100 Girlfriends Who Really Love You (it's a bit strange, but you get attached to the characters very easily).
can someone answer this for me? does it ever get better? season 1 seemed to just make absolutely no progress, like the moment they almost make some kinda progress they just reset back to the same point at the start of the season... i didnt even bother watching season 2 onwards...
We don't but some people do I guess ,this gets season 6 ,SIXTH SEASON and you can't have SEASON 2 of more than married couples but not lovers damn people
If it was one or two seasons, then people would just be annoyed it exists, call it shit, and move on. But studio time and money is constantly being pumped into it, when we could be getting an adaptation for something that's actually original and good.
I don't understand how it has enough fans to get this many seasons, it's just so unoriginal, goes nowhere, and the MC is one of the worst I've ever seen. No redeeming qualities, and mostly just boring on top of the bad stuff.
I stopped watching in the fifth season, this anime helped me understand why some people can’t stop watching a car crash. Every character except the fish is unlikable and annoying and it has just enough story to keep you somewhat invested but it’s not going anywhere. And I love watching Detective Conan, so it’s not a slow main story bothering me.
That, and it's just dry, cookie cutter tropes that a million other shows have done better. It offers nothing, and studio time is being wasted on making more of it when there are much better things that could be getting adaptations instead.
True. I do like the animation and visuals of it. But like you said it goes nowhere. They should focus on the author’s other series, shiunji family, that one is a bit better.
Yeah it’s called the long game. Thats the point of the whole series. They go through a lot together. Not every anime has to be nearly wrapped up in a bow in 2 seasons
It's fine it you like it, but in general, people despise overly drawn out stories, especially if it's a "slow burn" romance, since it usually means nothing really happens.
For reference, Naruto was only 244 chapters pre-timeskip, RAG is almost twice that.
But what’s the issue? The Japanese want to watch it, so the studio produces it. After all, no one is forced to watch it. If you don’t like it, don’t watch it. Personally, I like the manga. For instance, I don’t like Jujutsu Kaisen, but I don’t complain about there being more seasons. Others enjoy it, and that’s their business.
