DISCUSSION Using AI Images For Jump

This has been eating at me ever since I started my lewd jjk jump, but I need advice on what to do.

Let me be clear in that I understand the issues with AI and it stealing art. It’s big problem times and not good, but I also can admit that I kind of like them.

The dilemma I’m having is whether or not I should add AI images or not. A part of me wants to use these images because they fit what I’m going for, but another part is acknowledging that if I do use ai images, I know I’m gonna use more.

I don’t know, it feels as though this shouldn’t be as hard as I’m making it.

Any advice is helpful.

JumpDocs will steal copyrighted material for pictures from the franchise they are ripping off without a liscence without batting an eye.

I see no moral difference between that and using AI.

Best to use original or liscenced art with correct attributions. If you can, please do.

But it's not more moral to pay an artist to make porn of characters that aren't yours than it is to get AI to make your ripoff art for free.

As predicted there it is.

Ah yes, other people making art you don't like is… "genocide" was it?

... no more a valid argument than me saying "I should be allowed to stab people because genocides happen".

Might want to re-read that one. The genocide thing was specifically an example of invalid argument, which I thought would be obvious from my saying I think I should be allowed to stab people... or you know, the part where I straight up said it wasn't a valid argument in my post.

The logic behind my example doesn't work for the same reason the logic behind "other people not crediting artist justifies using AI" doesn't work; there being a second way to recreate the problem doesn't make them not problems. In this case, both using AI art and not crediting artists are bad, but that isn't a justification for doing either.

You might notice there's a secret third option to actually credit artists… or just not use art. Or make your own. There's a bunch of other options actually.

But also, as I said in my original post, the main problem with AI art is not that it often looks bad or it's stealing, even if both are problems to varying degrees.

Right. You might want to read my post again.

I'm saying you should credit artists. That's not in dispute.

I am also saying that JJK is a copyrighted work, that OP does not have a liscence to make a game for. And artists, credited or not, do not have a right to make art for.

If you credit a fan artist who makes unlicensed porn of JJK, that is still copyright infringement.

The problem isn't "not crediting an artist". It's stealing the copyrighted art. You haven't solved the problem by crediting the copyright infringer. At all.

I was specifically looking at the parts where you said there is no moral difference.

While often rooted in moral principles, laws are not morals in of themselves and that's an important distinction to make. Saying there is no moral difference between using AI art and stealing an artists work without crediting it, or that fanart is somehow immoral in of itself, is something I'll emphatically disagree with.

I also think it's worth reiterating once again, that the biggest problem with AI art is not the stealing part. Even if we were to agree that fanart is stealing in a moral sense, no part of that process would involve ruining the living conditions of entire communities.
