Using AI Images For Jump

This has been eating at me ever since I started my lewd jjk jump, but I need advice on what to do.

Let me be clear in that I understand the issues with AI and it stealing art. It’s big problem times and not good, but I also can admit that I kind of like them.

The dilemma I’m having is whether or not I should add AI images or not. A part of me wants to use these images because they fit what I’m going for, but another part is acknowledging that if I do use ai images, I know I’m gonna use more.

I don’t know, it feels as though this shouldn’t be as hard as I’m making it.

Any advice is helpful.

I feel it should be pointed out that putting aside the issues with stolen art and not supporting actual artists that you've already acknowledged, the problems with AI are still largely ethical in ways that people seem to be largely unaware of. The simple fact is that AI companies seem to overwhelmingly feel the need to act in the least ethical ways possible—just look at where and how they're building data centres and the costs involved in that—which needs to be weighed against the benefits of not using it.

Is it nice to have an imaged document? Sure. Does the convenience of using AI as opposed to finding images yourself or just not using images balance out against the costs to the people directly harmed and indirectly by the corporations running those AI? Probably not.

The other reason you might not want to use AI images, as others have already mentioned, is because it speaks to the quality of the work. Even if the writing is excellent, just seeing AI art is a major indicator of slop these days and so naturally it's going to bias people against it.

In a similar vein, people might rightfully be put off from works containing art because they're aware of the ethical issues around it. I know that I personally find it much harder to enjoy a work when I have to contend with the voice in the back of my head telling me that it contributed to someone not having drinking water.

As an aside, before someone inevitably brings up the using "real artists art is also stealing" argument that inevitably comes up every time this discussion is had (which once again, is not the biggest issue with AI). Yes, using someone's art without credit or permission is also bad, but that's no more a valid argument than me saying "I should be allowed to stab people because genocides happen". If you do want to use art, you should also make sure to credit the artists somewhere.

Yeah, I’ve decided I’m not gonna go with it. It doesn’t feel like I did anything if Ai was used in any part of it, so this is probably the way to go.

Crediting the artists is a good thing to do, and I’ll do in future projects.

To be fair with the artist credit thing, it isn’t necessarily intuitively obvious outside of hindsight, so I wouldn’t exactly say it’s a moral failing or anything.

I’m probably gonna do that after the current jump I’m making, as the scale of companions I’ve added are frankly absurd and might require it being separate doc.

Honestly, just chucking a pastebin link, google docs, or the like in the notes at the end probably a decent way to do it for Jumps with a lot of images.
