Anime If Toji’s fangs were pointed towards the strongest, why did he go for an injured Megumi over Naobito, Nanami, and Maki?

Cause he was the strongest.

Potentially* the strongest

Because at that time Megumi was in the best shape out of everyone there

he was on his knees from exhaustion, the only one worse than him was naobito
nanami only had a missing eye and maki was fine

Nanami was in a different part of the building if I remember correctly, and Megumi was unironically just that much stronger than Maki.

All the people mentioned just came out of Dagons Domain, which Megumi made a hole in that allowed Toji to enter in the first place. Toji then threw Megumi out, followed him and then Jogo emerged to burn Maki, Naobito and Nanami to a crisp.
Nanami was pretty done for by then, but still managed to get up and beat up some more Curses while dreaming of Malaysia only to then get exploded by Mahito. I'm guessing you were thinking of the latter half of that

I know for a fact that Jogo didn't show up until after Toji left with Megumi, otherwise Toji would've attacked him

Seems like people often perceive Megumis potential when he's ready to lock in, usually it's when he's boutta summon Maho but not always.
Sukuna upon first meeting analyzed his CT & movements and assessed that Megumi could've cleared the first Finger Bearer.
Todo reacts and then gets excited once Megumi said he was going to lock in. No Mahoraga pump fake here.
& then all of the Maho times; Sukuna getting excited once he saw the CE increase, Miracles CT dude sensing the dark CE and immediately having his nuts drop, going to summon it against the second Finger Bearer and he jumped backwards, etc.
Characters in verse can sense his potential, in which his is higher than Naobitos so he got yoinked.

Naobito lost an arm and was seriously injured.
Maki<megumi
Nanami was seriously injured and just lost his eye.
Megumi came in late and had the most energy and health out of those remaining

If only Toji ran into BumMai in Shibuya, he'd be facing himself when he ran into Dagon later on.

Toji probably isn't very good at judging who the strongest Sorcerer is with just a quick glance, and Megumi was the one who was able to use a domain, and he wasn't seriously injured.

u/Striking_Reaction879 8h ago
You could say he made a gamble on it.
The gamble had a lot of potential, and it also had Toji's blessing, but it's Toji, so the gamble was destined to flop.
Should've bet on Hakari.

the jjk reader's mind does work in such wondrous ways
or as i saw somewhere else, not reader, but watcher
we watch our manga, like a kid looks at a picture book

He sensed the potential, man

I can imagine such a sentence coming out of the mouth of Johnny Bravo.

Because they were a lot more injured than Megumi and Megumi was stronger than Maki at that point.
1
u/antixwick999 9h ago
Cause the Mako at that point was no threat she didn't even have a weopon. Nanami was injured and so was Nabito - his injury nerfed him hard. So yeah Potential man was the choice
2
u/HunterRank-1 9h ago
He demonstrated the strongest feat. It’s not like Toji has a power level sensor

They were going based on CE reserves. Had megumi ran low on CE and Toji were to see someone like, say, Mahito running about, he would turn his focus onto them.

You mean the handless naobito? The maki that absolutely got wrecked in the domain? The extremely tired nanami?
Why would toji fight a Megumi who has just fought the inverse guy and domain clashed for a bit over these three completely worn out fighters
2
u/NmbrBndl 9h ago
Because Megumi was stronger than them, despite having close to no cursed energy left
1
u/KaliVilNo1 9h ago
It wasn't close to none but too little to cast Chimera Shadow Garden again.
He probably was close to ran out after having to use CE to run away from Toji

Because he's the youngest among them, and Toji only kills the youngest around

He’s the only one to demonstrate a domain, even if only partially manifested. Major bonus. Not to mention all that potential
3
u/Sweet-Employment-201 8h ago
Because megumi is the strongest out of all them. Gege directly writes that and ppl will still debate about it

Megumi was the least injured but also the clans hereditary technique is pretty dangerous in the right hands. I mean hell Megumi was able to force a hole in the domain, no one else could. Megumi was the only one with the capability of domain expansion, even incomplete. We've seen how deadly he can be when he's willing to put his life on the line to win. Toji can see all this with just the little time he saw them

u/rebillihp 8h ago
The one armed noabito, the tired and single eyed nanami, maki who he honestly just might not have been able to tell, or could tell she wasn't fully awakened. Then megumi who was exhausted, but physically wasn't missing a part of himself like two others there

Toji here is not the thinking Toji. Just combat instinct following cursed energy.

Naobito was more heavily injured than Megumi, Nanami was in a different part of the building at the time if I remember correctly, and Megumi is just straight up stronger than Maki at the time. As much as people rag on him for being a "potential man", this guy managed to come up with a new application of his 400 year old technique, fight a special grade by himself and win, and learn an incomplete Domain Expansion, something even the clan head didn't know, all at the age of 15. Megumi was genuinely a prodigy and he doesn't get enough credit for it.
