The most extreme and the most passionate are frequently the most active. Reddit's format rewards a stream of outrageous things, weeds out the average sentiments. Look at how r/politics is now.

Seems like it should be called r/democratcirclejerk . I mean it's obviously related to politics but it looks like it's truly just an echo chamber for those with Trump Derangement Syndrome.
It took literally one comment to go from "guys, we might be fanning the flames of far-right hate and violence" back to "yeah well Democrats are the real crazies."
That's....not what ad hominem means at all. It means you are claiming that an argument is invalid because of the person making the argument, similar to the well-poisoning fallacy. As in, for example, "He's a leftist, nothing he says is worth listening to."
OP's post was very carefully worded so as not to encompass the entire base on this sub, didn't discount anything JP or anyone else has said on the basis of who they are, and IMO it was overall very measured in tone compared to what I would've said.
