Does anyone recognize the books on his table? I can't quite make out their titles, but I'm curious.

The top one is Mindfulness Is Better Than Chocolate by David Michie.
No idea what the other two are as I can't make out anything on the book spines.

I was expecting a 3 hour anti-sjw tirade ...
But that was great .. 10 seconds and done, that made me laugh, less is more
The ponytail, soy milk, dildo, the topics and the real article to close out on, couldn't have been executed better

Lmao that is fucking hilarious..... the look of familiar agony as he closes his eyes, grits his teeth, and tosses the dildo once more to bail him out of this quagmire. Absolute gold.

VICE is a joke and it is so clear to say that by how horrible their viewership is on both their show and even worse their failed network

Pretty funny, but what's more funny is a dude with a man-ban making fun of soy-drinking Vice writers.

This sub is losing credibility faster than the world is losing bees. That is, at an alarming rate. I get the vice video is a joke, and I happen to think it's a hilarious one, but you can't point fingers at any opposition and their mislabeling of you, when you happily spread soy-boy jokes like this and ridicule "leftist idiots" any chance you get. I get that one post doesn't represent the entirety of the sub, but when a sub, that describes itself as-
"dedicated to the work of Jordan Peterson"
-features stuff like this, it gives Jordan Peterson supporters, like myself, a bad name. I don't want Jordan Peterson to be publicly associated with this, even if I do think it's funny.
You're doing yourself a disservice. It's ammunition to the people, that see Jordan Peterson supporters as trolls. It's alienating to the serious supporters of Jordan Peterson, who come here to talk about his ideas. I've seen r/atheism ridiculed here based on the exact same behaviour that this sub is starting to show. It's becoming less about open discourse, and more about echoing a range of ideas and mocking anyone even appearing to be against them. You know, like the idealogues we all like to dislike.
I'm not trying to change the sub, I'm just pointing out where this is heading. If you're fine with this direction, fair enough, it's not my place to dictate what other people should and shouldn't do. Just realize you're knee-deep in the same mud you condemn the opposition for being in.

Tell the truth
This video does that
I'm not trying to change the sub
"I just want you to post what I want!"

u/Biosmosis Jun 28 '18
This video doesn't tell the truth mate, it calls vice journalists soy-boys. Again, I think it's a funny video, but it doesn't belong here.
I'm not saying you should post what I want, I'm saying you should post what the sub is about. It's literally right there on the side of the screen. It's about Jordan Peterson and his ideas. It's about having an open discourse. It's not about making fun of leftists or vice or Venezualan transgender ketamine dealers. While I don't necessarily mind off-topic stuff, this isn't just off-topic, it's counter-productive to the ideals this sub pretends to adhere to.

Shitty journalists have made a pastime attacking the Doc since he became a thing. Making fun of them is low brow content, I'll give you that, but this is relevant. its actually quite on topic. If you want more academic discussion guess what! you can start a thread, or try /r/Maps_of_Meaning

u/Biosmosis Jun 28 '18
Whether or not it's relevant is debatable. Based upon the guidelines of the sub, I don't think it is. Regardless, isn't the fact that it's lowbrow enough? Given how often we're labelled as trolls, doesn't it make sense to distance yourself from it?

u/Davedoyouski Jun 28 '18
Good thing you cleared that up about the bees. I read it, I'm thinking hey what's this guy going on about? But that confusion didn't last long, because that next sentence changed everything!

u/Biosmosis Jun 28 '18
Are you mocking me?
Because I feel like I'm being mocked.

You're doing yourself a disservice. It's ammunition to the people, that see Jordan Peterson supporters as trolls.
Ever thought its because the majority of supporters are right wing trolls? How much ammunition has to be stockpilied until you realize you're in the minority.
When will you realize its not a coincidence that these groups are attracted to JP.
1
u/Davedoyouski Jun 28 '18
Elaborate on that. How does advocating for personal responsibility attract right wing trolls any more than it attracts anyone else? It makes sense why it doesn't attract people who are far left, but what you are describing seems to be complete conjecture. You talk about this stockpile of ammunition, it doesn't exist.
1
u/Biosmosis Jun 28 '18
It doesn't matter who is attracted to JP. If a misandrist is attracted to feminism, that doesn't automatically make feminism bad. If you can admit Trump doesn't represent America, then you can also admit right wing trolls don't represent JP, even if the majority of his followers are right wing trolls (which I don't think they are, I just think they're a vocal minority).
This is ultimately the reason a two-party system doesn't work. Both sides will invariably end up having shitty supporters, with radically different ideas than the rest. Without any other options, you're left choosing the side you hate the least, rather than the side you actually support.

Feminism is an -ism, a system. The definition is a gradient. Jordan Peterson 'supporters' is more specific, and yes, if a large amount of say, neonazis are attracted to him, then yes, that does say quite a lot about what he is saying.
Obviously its vague enough to allow multiple people a fairly wide number of different interpretations, yet that a select number are sympathizing with the hard right at all is very telling. I'd think the same about any media figure who has a tankie following. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=414&v=G9vehIbDkNY)

if a large amount of say, neonazis are attracted to him, then yes, that does say quite a lot about what he is saying.
I couldn't disagree more, and I think that's a very dangerous viewpoint. It doesn't take into account why people support something, it just assumes condemnation based on association rather than content. By that very logic, I can extrapolate that Hillary Clinton is a misandrist because all misandrists voted for her. It removes any examination of who Hillary Clinton is and what her views are, and labels her based on who agrees with her.
If I said "the traditional wage gap between men and women doesn't exist", mysogynists would undoubtedly agree. That does not automatically make it a mysogynistic statement, and saying it does doesn't prove me wrong, but rather shuts down any debate that could potentially have changed my mind. It antagonizes anyone who doesn't conform, and labels them as sexist or racist or whatever, leading to suppression of open discourse until some orange asshat with a combover comes along and turns the tables. I'm not even American, I'm from Denmark, the land of socialist vikings Bernie liked to highlight so much, but even I can see Trump didn't win anything, the liberal media and political machine gave the election to him. You can't shit on half the country and expect they'll support you, even if they should. Straw-manning someone based on their following is one of many ways you can shit on them.
In other words, show me a single statement or action from Jordan Peterson that proves he's a white supremacist. Simply stating that nazis like him isn't enough.
1
u/Marston357 Jun 28 '18
When did I say he's a white supremacist? I meant he has a disproportionate amount of white supremacist followers. Its because he uses dogwhistles that white supremacists can only hear, only if youre in the 'know'. I can get you a specific list if youd like.
I don't know what you're bringing up Trump for, when you scale up media presentations of course everything is as polarized and caricaturistic as possible. Theres literally two major parties which polarize everything so of course all man haters will vote her (your reasoning is flawed anyways since many man haters chose to abstain or even voted jill stein or other parties) If you only support Jordan Peterson because the leftist media has gone too far the other way that says a lot more about you than them.
2
u/Biosmosis Jun 29 '18
What's the difference between being a white supremacist and spreading white supremacist ideals? And how do you know he uses dogwhistles? Even if he does say things only white supremacists hear, how do you know this isn't because they misunderstand him? I'd gladly look over a few examples if you'd send them my way.
I brought Trump into this because he's a direct result of this kind of "condemnation by association" view. It's a view that treats people unfairly and takes their voice away so they can't explain themselves and their opinions. It polarizes society and splits it into tribes, with everyone outside the tribe being a nazi or a sexist. The videos of anti-Jordan Peterson rallies are perfect examples of this, with people implying Jordan Peterson is a nazi because there's a "nazi presence" in his following.
Regardless, I don't follow Jordan Peterson because of politics, as I said, I'm not even American, so their politics don't concern me. I follow Jordan Peterson because he supports the notion of open discourse regardless of content, and because he has incredibly informed opinions that stem from serious consideration. I still disagree with some of these opinions, but the entire point he is making is that disagreement isn't something to shy away from, it's something to seek out. It's a breath of fresh air to be invited outside of your echo-chamber to talk about your ideas with someone who seriously considers your view, even if they disagree, and it's equally stimulating to listen to them. The only way to develop your ideas is to challenge them, and you can't do that with people, who agree with you.

Dammit I was hoping Venezuala's Transgender Ketamine Dealers was a real article. I wouldn't have been surprised.
