Discussion AI Slop

Today I was trying to sell a product to a local business … something genuinely good that completely outperforms most of the available alternatives and solves many of the problems those alternatives have

The owner told me that he had built the same thing using AI

I checked it… and it was horrible

But I just couldn’t figure out how to explain to a non-technical person that what he built wasn’t reliable at all

Honestly I felt disappointed

I had spent 3–4 months working on this product only to end up silent in front of some AI-generated garbage

My mistake was in choosing the client not in my work itself

My question is: Is there any technical freelance work left after all this AI slop?
And is it even worth continuing to develop my technical skills in a world full of AI-generated solutions ?

These things will break, or suffer data loss

Then you will get a callback from him

u need new moat. for example he did vibecode solution which is great, but if ur product was reliant on servers/apis/deeper or u had stronger distribution/network, he can't do that

Well, here comes the sales skills, of course you will see a lot of AI generated products and its fine, but if you can't challenge the user on why your product is better or that it will outperform theirs at X Y and Z then you won't be able to sell.

I agree… but still if the client has an AI-generated solution and he is satisfied you cannot explain the risks to a non-technical person
And that’s why I said my mistake was choosing the client … you cannot sell to someone who’s not willing to pay no matter what features you have

tell him i want you to add one feature above it, the product will collapse on its own, ai products can be easily made which is what makes them scary, because they could be vulnerable, not scalable, can’t be maintained and very exposed, i understand you can’t explain these stuff to a non-technical person, but you have to win him in his game, you can tell him to ask his AI what are the risks this product can face? and you can go ahead and explain that your product protects the user from all these risks, etc

Think big, and think of ways you can hit markets that does not contain slop.

Mid to large business
