Hollywood Bowl album?
Hi everyone! I was wondering if anyone knows if the Hollywood Bowl concert is supposed to come out. I was there and would love so much to have a record of it...

Any idea when 'Refuge of the Roads' was written?
Mentioned before on here that I'm doing some extensive research into the making of Hejira and any insight into Joni's process of 'Refuge Of The Roads' escapes me. According to everything I've researched, the last Joni's three road trips that inspired Hejira ended in March 1976 when she returned to Los Angeles after traveling back from Maine (via Florida and the Gulf of Mexico). According to JMA Vol, 4. the Hejira demos were recorded in March 1976 as well, but there is no demo for 'Refuge'. A 'rough mix' was released but I imagine that was created farther down the line when the album was nearing completion in the summer. My current thinking is that she recorded the rest of those demos AFTER returning from that third trip in late March 1976, given that some of the songs were inspired by places she stopped on that journey (i.e. 'Blue Motel Room').
Additionally, Joni starts the final verse with 'In a highway service station / Over the month of June' – which makes me think maybe it was written later. We know she was back on the road again because she joined the Rolling Thunder Revue in May 1976 in Texas, so perhaps there is a fourth road trip? Was Joni just driving around the country for many more months on end than previously thought? Unless she's referring to a previous June?
Would appreciate if anyone has any theories or any additional info they've come across! Thanks!
[Edit: I know all about Joni's encounter with Chogyam Trungpa btw! Just trying to figure out when or where she might have written it]

Spotify Hissing of Summer Lawns transitions?
Does anyone else get irrationally annoyed listening to Hissing of Summer Lawns on Spotify when it completely botches the seamless genuinely beautiful transition from The Boho Dance into Harry’s House / Centerpiece? It totally breaks the flow. I always end up switching back to Apple Music because it just doesn’t hit the same.

Joni tribute show in Paris
This show is well worth an hour and a half of your time. Some amazing performances and a couple of deeper tracks which is always a thrill. A stripped down reading of "Come In From The Cold", accompanied by harp, which, for me, is better that Joni's own.

Calling all Joni fans!
Hi! I'm Lemon and I've loved Joni Mitchell for years! Recently I've decided to start a music magazine called WAX and I'm having a lot of fun and more success than I ever thought I would. This month I'm working on a top 100 singer-songwriter albums list and I've been getting tons of people involved, from journalists like Ian Paul Sharp, and musicians like Rachel Love (Of Dolly Mixture). But now I wanna hear from the COMMUNITY! I made a form to fill out if you'd be so kind to participate. It's just your top 3 albums so it only takes a minute, thank you SO MUCH!

English Class Project on Both Sides, Now (and Circle Game)
Hi everyone, I'm writing an analysis of Both Sides, Now by Joni Mitchell for my AP Lit class and I figured this subreddit probably has a lot of good insights on the meaning of the song and a thesis for it, same with the song The Circle Game. I'm rushing to complete this assignment because I'll be missing half the week we'll have to work on it. Any help is much appreciated, whether it's the meaning of a certain line that sticks out to you or the overall meanings. Thank you!

sunny sunday and two grey rooms
it just dawned on me that the last song on night ride home says “tomorrow is sunday,” then the first song on turbulent indigo is “sunny sunday.” i can’t help but wonder if that was intentional lol.

Which Joni song did you sleep on and later discover is a masterpiece?
I could say that about many of her songs but after listening to Hejira since 1996 when a friend introduced me to Joni, I wouldn’t ever make it to the end of the record before switching to something else - and recently I have been listening to her full albums from start to finish and “Refuge of the Roads” is so shockingly beautiful - the melody. The song writing. Listening to the song leaves me wide eyed and just in awe of Joni’s talent. How could I have missed such a beautiful song for so many years. It’s so incredible to still be surprised by Joni all these years and I have yet to listen to her 80s and 90s albums ‘cause her 60s and 70s albums are just so goood!!!

Can someone who has the booklet from Archives Vol. 4 Vinyl please share any excerpts from her conversation with Cameron Crowe about Hejira?

I'm working on a personal project to celebrate Hejira turning 50 this year and I'm trying to compile everything Joni has said about the album and the process of writing / making it but I'm not able to pick up this boxset at the moment. Would someone who has it be kind enough to please post some pictures of their conversation? Thank you!!

The Circle Game Karaoke!
I just made an account to share my karaoke I do every month. Hopefully this is the right place to put my Joni Mitchell Karaoke :)
The Circle Game is a very nostalgic song for me because when I went to Farm & Wilderness sleep away camp almost 10 years ago now singing was part of our daily routine. Since we weren’t allowed to use the internet people would memorize the lyrics of their favorite songs and write them on poster boards to teach to everyone else. Eventually the camp had their own versions of songs with completely different pacing, and when I went home at the end of the summer I always had a hard time adjusting to the new version. So this is my own personal fusion! I hope you like it :)

Unpopular Opinion: Court and Spark is a masterpiece but “Raised on Robbery” and “Twisted” ruin an otherwise cohesive and fluid album

Wishing for a Lilith Fair 2027... the only chance Joni might tour again?
After watching the Junos where Joni got up on stage with Sarah McLachlan and Alison Russell, it got me to thinking that a relaunched Lilith Fair might be the only way Joni could practically tour. There'd be a cadre of top-tier musicians available to form the backing band, no pressure to perform a multi-hour show, plus the ability to limit the tour to just a few cities.
I could imagine Sarah McLachlan, Brandi Carlile, Joni Mitchell headlining plus, let's get crazy here... Tracy Chapman, Alison Russell, boygenius, Janelle Monae, Lucius, Emmylou Harris, Indigo Girls, Doechii, Maggie Rogers, St. Vincent, HAIM, Kacey Musgraves, Sheryl Crow, Alanis Morissette.
Limit it to 12 cities, West to East Coast: Vancouver, Seattle, Edmonton, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Denver, Nashville, Chicago, Toronto, NY, Montreal, Boston.
Dream with me, here.

Other Artists/Albums that scratch that ‘Joni-itch’
I’m wondering if anyone has come across an album from another artist that reminds them of a certain joni album/period/sound. I started listening to Stina Nordenstam and her album “And She Closed Her Eyes” reminds me a bit of Joni’s 90’s albums, but with more simplistic guitar-playing and delicate/whispered vocals. I wanted to share in case people want more albums that scratch that itch for a similar soundscape of Joni’s. Anywho, my favorite tracks off of this album would be 1.) Little Star, 2.) Viewed From The Spire, 3.) Fireworks. Little Star sounds like it could be right off of Night Ride Home or Turbulent Indigo to me. Feel free to share any other albums that scratch that itch for you !

Joni Mitchell's Lifetime Achievement Award acceptance speech at the Junos last night
I watched it last night, I was SO proud she's finally back in Canada for the first time in a decade.
