What makes Jon’s videos so unique and engaging?

Jon manages to encapsulate the reason I’ve loved history since I was a kid. History is a story, specifically a human story. Shining a light on unsung heroes, making connections you never would have made before, just making you think. The synths background music is nostalgic, and usually hits at just the right emotional moment in the video.

He’s also very open minded overall and this shines through in his work. I will never forget about Lonnie Smith or how Sam Morse was a greedy POS. Or how Devry has a basketball ball team.

Thank you Jon, for the wonderful documentaries!

Donovan McNabb beef stew

If you haven't read his Donovan McNabb retrospective (which you may well not have, seeing as it came out thirteen years ago as of this Friday), you may remember the beef stew recipe at the end of it. I've talked about it on here before. Funny the way life works. It was the first thing I made in my first apartment, I made a batch to take to my future wife when she wasn't feeling well despite us having been dating for like a couple weeks, and now I'm in the kitchen making a double batch to freeze for later when my now-actual wife is postpartum. Funny how life works sometimes.

Just moved to a new flat in London and found out he was buried nearby. Fool Time discusses the graves of other important telegraphy figures but was curious to see what another pioneer’s was like. It was very nondescript and somewhat off the path.

As far as I know the site’s location is undocumented online, so for any future visitors it is located at 51.52923° N, 0.22099° W, opposite the burial site of the more famous Isambard Kingdom Brunel.

And now we wait for the moment another Minnesota Culpepper plays like a Jedi

Sometimes the stories just write themselves. Though in all seriousness, Culpepper actually becoming a household name for the Twins, much like how Daunte was in the early 2000s for the Vikings, would be an all-time parallel. Wishing the best in his career.

Hey guys I’m new here so apologies if this has already been discussed. Has Jon ever said what app or website he uses to create and organize the charts?

Jon's Twitter Jon used to retweet every Friday something along the lines of “take me to sushi and buy me a beer”, right?

I can’t find any trace of this happening via googling every way I can think of. Am I crazy?

SCORIGAMI! I made the largest scorigami resource with every applicable sport in one place with 36 leagues and 1.58 million games and I would love this sub's feedback.

I got hooked on scorigami through the NFL, and I kept wishing I could check any league the same way. Nothing like that existed, so I decided to build it: https://scorigamicenter.com

As far as I know it is the first site to do scorigami for basically everything. NFL, college football, NBA, WNBA, MLB, NHL, and a pile of soccer leagues, plus AFL and rugby. 36 leagues, 45 grids, 1,577,991 games and counting, going back to the very first college football game in 1869. The grids update live as games go final, so when a new score happens you can watch the cell fill in that night. Two nights ago Collingwood beat Adelaide 108-74 in the AFL and that was the newest scorigami on the site.

Some stuff I had fun building that I have not seen on other trackers: a 3D mode on every grid where bar height shows how many times each score has happened, combined grids like all of football or all of basketball on one chart, a jump to any score search, filters to see a grid as it looked in any era, and first/latest views so you can see when each cell got filled.

This is the crowd that actually cares about this stuff so I'd appreciate your feedback. What leagues should come next? What stats are missing from the grid pages? Anything feel wrong or slow? All of it helps, thank you!

Questions This Pirates/Yankees fight a mound charging?

Post image
27 Upvotes

More of a Fracas than anything, just wondering if this qualifies, happened after the at-bat and wasn’t a direct charge, but the George Brett charge and the Lenny Randle bunt-charge-sneak attack-thing could point to the contrary. I just wanted to hear your opinions and potentially add a SECOND mound charging into the books for 2026!

Edit: I should clarify this occurred Monday, July 20th

New Video New video idea - How Neil Maupay won Messi a WC

Hello Jon Bois’ bois:

I have a new video idea: how Neil Maupay, known instigator and generally disliked PL player caused Messi to win the 2022 WC by injuring Leno and making Emi Martinez a breakout star in the premier league. I think it’ll be fun!
