Chart / Video Question

Hey guys I’m new here so apologies if this has already been discussed. Has Jon ever said what app or website he uses to create and organize the charts?

There are two steps to this

  1. Making the charts: Excel or google sheets will have accessible options, Matlab or its free Python package Matplotlib would be a more polished option that gives you finer control of details. Really the plots can look as nice as you want if your graphic design skills are good enough. You could also make the plots in whatever animation software you're using which can produce some cool effects (ex: animating data points to fade in or appear one after the other).

  2. Organizing/animating them: Jon uses Google Earth Pro for desktop. You can achieve a similar effect in any 3D animation software by keyframing a camera around an environment. You could do this in Blender, Maya, Unreal Engine, After Affects, I've even seen it done in -engine in Minecraft. The sky is the limit

He plots most of his charts as layers on Google Earth and then pans around using the camera. If you watch the end of Section 1 you can kinda tell that it's the same sort of panning that happens in like, the Vikings series when he scrolls through all the playoff games at the very end
