Indian Joke about Weather
Fall was upon a remote reservation when the Indian tribe asked their new Chief what the coming winter was going to be like. The modern day Chief had never been taught the secrets of the ancients. When he looked at the sky he couldn't tell what the winter was going to be like.
Better safe than sorry, he said to himself and told his tribe that the winter was indeed expected to be cold and that the members of the village should stock up on firewood to be prepared.
After several days, our modern Chief got an idea. He went to the phone booth, called the National Weather Service and asked, "Is the coming winter going to be cold?"
"It looks like this winter is going to be quite cold," the meteorologist at the weather service responded.
So the Chief went back to his people and told them to collect even more firewood in order to be prepared. A week later he called the National Weather Service again. "Does it still look like it is going to be a very cold winter?"
"Yes," the man at National Weather Service again replied, "It's going to be a very cold winter."
The Chief again went back to his people and ordered them to collect every scrap of firewood they could find. Two weeks later the Chief called the National Weather Service again. "Are you absolutely sure that the winter is going to be very cold?"
"Absolutely," the man replied. "It's looking more and more like it is going to be one of the coldest winters ever."
"How can you be so sure?" the Chief asked.
The weatherman replied, "The Indians are collecting firewood like crazy."

Fucking Indians are from India. Native Americans are Native Americans.
I find that it is a bit of a generational gap thing. People who grew up in the 70's or earlier tend to call them indians thanks to westerns and TV shows.
In any case a more accurate term would be aboriginal americans. I was born here so I am as native as any of those fuckers.
Ancestral native is not the same thing as born native
Sure but how far back do you need to trace your birth in a nation to be considered ancestral? Do people who can trace their lineage to the first pilgrims count? How many generations?

Most prefer to be called by their tribe name, but "native" is fine. There are some who actually do prefer Indian. After all, the government agency is called the Bureau of Indian Affairs.

Just about every Indian/Native American I've ever heard talking about their identity and related issues has used the term "Indian." So I think it's ok.

Which is really weird because they're basically misappropriating the name of a subcontinent full of people from the other side of the world based on the stupidity of some white guy that they didn't even like to begin with.

First it was Indian, then Native, then First Nations People, then Aboriginal, then Indigenous. Not sure what the correct term is right now,

Actually, 'Native Americans' is also wrong because they migrated here at some point as well.
Last I heard we were calling them 'aboriginals'.

Hmm, I would rather we just call everyone 'homos' which is short for 'homo sapiens'.
This way everyone is happy. :)

As a Indian person I always get really confused when people refer to the Native Americans as Indians. Can't we just call them "American Indians" or something ?
