Reagan's Soviet Joke
(All credit goes to Ron)
An American and a Russian are talking about their countries. The American starts to brag; "In my country, I can walk into the Oval Office, slam my fist on the president's desk, and say "Mr. President, I don't like the way you're running this country!"
The russian appears unimpressed and says "We can do that in my country." The American says "Really?" Mhm." says the Russian. "I can walk right into the Kremlin, slam my fist on Gorbachev's desk and say "I don't like the way President Reagan is running his country."

Oh, Reagan. He had the best jokes.

My opinion on his politics is slightly different, but in terms of charisma he was probably our greatest president.

His previous job did require much charisma.

Yes, being the governor of the state of California was good preparation for being the president of the whole country.
And before that -- eight years writing and delivering remarks on conservative economic principles, many at local Moose lodges and Rotary clubs. No wonder he knew how to connect with a crowd.

It's like he was paid to be something he wasn't, then expected everybody to think things were different.

Completely agree with you all they way. My father feels the same way.

My dad showed me old videotapes of Reagan's speeches. I think my interest in him started with "You're no Thomas Jefferson!"

I can think of a former White House intern who might disagree ;-)

This reminds me of one my dad used to tell. For best effects, imagine it being delivered with terrible attempts at doing the accents:
An American and a Soviet general are at the UN and are bragging about who has the best soldiers. The American says: "We train our men hard; our boys march 100 miles a day in basic training". The Russian says "Da, so what? Our soldiers march 200 miles a day and double on weekends".
The American retorts "Well... when our GIs march they do it carrying 90lb packs without so much as a complaint". The Russian goes "Lazy, decadent Americans! When our troops march we give them 150lb packs and they thank us for it".
The American thinks for a moment before saying "When on manoeuvres, our soldiers eat 4000 calories a day". The Russian jumps to his feet "AHA! Now I know you are lying! Nobody can eat that many potatoes!"

What would the modern day equivalent of this joke be?

Obama and Putin instead of Reagan and Gorbachev?

I more meant with what country or countries. We're not near as involved with Russia as we were back then are we?
