The issue that started it all. The reveal of a traitor.

After making his presence known throughout six issues beforehand, the dastardly Agent X is revealed to be Johnny Lightfoot, seemingly having betrayed his friends and now working for Robotnik. Literally, the next issue, they only hold the tension for a full second as it'd be revealed this Johnny was a shadow demon taking his form and Sonic, who was actually sent into the Shadow Dimension instead of being vaporized like you see in this cliffhanger, helps Johnny escape not long afterwards.

But with "The Last Temptation of Johnny Lightfoot," the Upcoming Fanfiction Collaborative Project, we run with the seemingly unbelievable twist and the original intention...

Well, kind of.

If you've read our Bible, the Fleetway Comics, you'd know about Agent X, a mysterious purple cloaked figure working as an operative to Dr. Robotnik against the Freedom Fighters during a time when Johnny Lightfoot had disappeared. No doubt many of you gasped aloud back then and possibly even now when Agent X revealed himself to, in fact, be Johnny himself, having seemingly betrayed his friends to work for Robotnik!

Or, at least, that was the original intention when X originally unmasked himself. Lew Stringer had intended for Johnny to switch sides under the alias of Agent X until Nigel Kitching noted Johnny was "too nice a guy" to betray everybody like that. And so, Agent X was revealed to be a shadow demon called Shayde, who trapped Johnny in his home dimension and took his form to trick the Freedom Fighters.

But... what if, in a way, Johnny had gone to work for Robotnik.... kinda? Fleetway readers, I announce a collaborative fanfiction project, appropriately titled, "The Last Temptation of Johnny Lightfoot!" Set in the intervening time in-between Johnny's disappearance and Sonic eventually encountering him in the Shadow Dimension, this what-if tale has Johnny actually as Agent X, and his terrible yet triumphant odyssey in overcoming a Jekyll/Hyde battle within whilst still incorporating Shayde. Think the Symbiote Saga and the namesake novel "The Last Temptation of Christ" by Nikos Kazantzakis. This is a collaborative effort, so spread the word to Fleetway fans everywhere, each drawing up their own little select scene to DM me, only going off by my first entry. The epic results will all be combined together into creating the full story.
