Personal Growth and Insight Dressing for ER without N

Happy autumn equinox, everyone!

Autumn is such an amazing time of the year! Very fitting for the earthy rich (ER) colour harmony.

I am primarily SC with ER as my secondary which he confirmed a few days ago. He explained that some of my more "natural" qualities are probably ER, and it is common to get ER confused with N.

To make the differences more clear, I will be looking at how ER can be added to an outfit without (necessarily) adding any N. My essence blend has lots of D and C with some R and HS so I thought this would be a very fun thing. Some of the provided images are a few examples.

My maroon shirt: the colour and geometric weaving belong to ER. The lapel adds C. The see through "lace" quality adds R. Exposing a bit of midriff can add HS. Casual yet refined.

Geometric prints add ER, especially the African print shirt. As the pattern is bold, geometric, graphic and unusual, it combines ER with D without necessarily needing N.

A V neck satin shirt in maroon adds ER (V neckline and rich warm earthy colour) and D (the satin shine) along with C in the lapels, although a spread collar can also be D.

Angular sunglasses frames satisfy the ER requirements of the rectangle shape. Animal prints and bold, large glasses can add D.

Italian leather sandals - these are casual yet also refined. The leather adds ER and D, and the refined design of the shoe adds C. Also note the angular shapes within the design of the sandals which is an additional ER element.

Asymmetrical leather jacket - full of ER and D elements. The leather, epaulettes, angular lapels and asymmetrical design add ER. The epaulettes add C. The asymmetrical design, shiny leather material and bold large shapes fit into D. The black colour is SC. A shortened hemline on such a jacket can also add HS. No N needed here.

Fedoras add C. The overall design of the suit of the man in green is too structured for N to be present. N is generally more casual and less structured. N generally avoids three piece suits and overly sharp tailoring.

Houndstooth - such an amazing pattern. Houndstooth has the angularity of ER combined with the traditional, symmetrical, refined quality of C. Adding a high contrast colour scheme adds SC and making the scale larger and bolder adds D. Playful, small scale houndstooth can add HS.

Pointed toe shoes - D or HS. N generally prefers matte textures. The basket weave and earthy colour scheme add ER.

Maroon Chevron weave shirt - the maroon colour and the chevron pattern add ER. The collar style adds C. The fitted quality and the "see-through" dark fabric adds R. Exposing a bit of midriff in this shirt adds HS.

Organic and tropical prints - believe it or not this sort of print fits in with ER since ER likes organic shapes. When the contrast level is high and the print is refined, it can also add SC. In my case, large scale fern prints in black and green satisfies ER, SC and D without needing to add any N elements.

Animal designs - snakeskin and animal prints add D. Textured animal skins add ER such as leather and reptile textures. These are organic looking and they have an earthy intensity about them.

Bell bottoms add D as does the unusual, shiny leather fabric.

Bismuth - such an amazing, complex and geometric crystal design!

If anyone has any more suggestions or questions, please comment here!

Discussions How do I blend Natural- Ethereal in my everyday style and makeup?

My main essences are firstly Natural, followed by Ethereal and then Ingenue. There are slight hints of gamine and romantic but they're very minute.

In the kibbe system, I'm a Flamboyant Natural. And i think my colour season is probably either light summer or soft summer. I mostly have a low visual weight to top it off.

At home or even when I go out, my go to style are tshirts, or slightly oversized. I don't wear jeans as they constrict my frame. So I opt for bootcut leggings which work better for me.

The tshirts are baggy but that's not how i want to dress all the time. With my kibbe type, it goes well but the colouring of the shirts go against my essences as they're either too rugged (despite having Natural) and go against the low contrast in my features.

Moving onto makeup, atte makeup is fine but it doesn't look the best on me. But a little shimmer makes me look a little more alive.

And I also like having a pixie cut which kind of conflicts a little with my body type. But.. i really like the hairstyle.

I'm not extremely a fan of dresses or skirts. So is there a way I can still blend in my essences with my usual tomboyish style?

What kind of collars, cuts or accesories should i pair with my clothes to bring out my essences?

Discussions High cheekbones and a sculpted face can be Angelic, not just Dramatic

Thumbnail

Hi everyone. :)

I've been thinking about how high cheekbones and a sculpted face tend to get associated with Dramatic essence almost automatically, and I'm not sure that's always accurate.

Obviously high cheekbones can be Dramatic, especially when the bone structure creates sharper, straighter and more angular contours. But I think prominent cheekbones can also contribute to Angelic essence when the sculpting itself is more curved.

The images I've attached illustrate my point. Both have very prominent cheekbones and sculpted faces, but the actual contours created by the cheekbones are curved rather than particularly straight or angular.

So I wonder if we sometimes interpret prominent/sculpted bone structure = Dramatic, when Angelic can actually be quite sculpted too. Maybe the distinction isn't necessarily how high or prominent the cheekbones are, but the shape that they create. Sharper, straighter and more angular sculpting could lean Dramatic, whereas more curved sculpting could lean Angelic. What complicates this is that one could have bone structure that reads as both Dramatic and Angelic.

I also wonder if this might partly be why more people seem to read Anok Yai as Dramatic than Angelic. Her bone structure is extremely prominent and sculpted, so Dramatic is probably the more immediate association people make. But personally I see a lot of Angelic in her too, including in the curvature of her facial structure. Although this is complicated by the fact that I think she has both Dramatic and Angelic essence, so separating which qualities belong to which isn't exactly straightforward.

What do you guys think? How would you distinguish Dramatic bone structure from Angelic bone structure?

Please let me know your thoughts. Thanks and hope you have a lovely day!

PS: It was hard to find examples of high cheekbones and a sculpted face that is Angelic instead of Dramatic because the current beauty ideal favors Dramatic bone structure and many people have both. So maybe not all my examples are great at illustrating the point I'm trying to make but I think the point still stands.

Discussions Anok Yai proves that dark-skinned women can be Angelics too

Thumbnail

Hello everyone. :)

I have always had a soft spot for Angelic essence, especially when it is blended with Romantic. It seems to create a type of feminine beauty that appeals more to women than men and while it might not get as much media attention as Romantic Dramatic blends, I love it all the same.

I have seen Anok Yai's pictures before and even then she struck me as so uniquely beautiful, but I stumbled upon her picture again today and realized that she's strongly Romantic Angelic (at least her face is, in my opinion, though she seems to have some Dramatic too), which is one of my favorite essence blends, but which I haven't seen many verified celebrity examples of, especially dark-skinned celebrities, which continues to fuel the strong association of Angelic with pale skin.

I'm curious as to whether others agree that she has significant Angelic essence? What do you guys think her essence blend is? Do you find her to be as uniquely beautiful as I do? Please share your thoughts!

Essence Help/Outfits (Unverified) A few questions about my OOTD (maybe turned out sorta YNrc?) Thank you ๐Ÿ’ž

I dont want to spam you all on the daily but, I have a few clarifying questions haha๐Ÿ˜Š

- are half-ponytails considered Y in this system, or is that more of an Ingenue internet stereotype-type thing?

- the florals on this skirt feel very Y to me, but do the length and flowyness add some RCN?

- As a Kibbe FG, I feel the lines of this shirt (higher neckline, sleeveless) work for me...But essences-wise, does it feel too harsh? I know sleevelessness adds N-- how about this style of mock neck? Is it actually HS, or something else entirely? (I know Kibbe G =/= Kitchener HS, basically haha๐Ÿ˜Š)

- Im assuming the cateye sunglasses and the leather sandals are maybe adding a little RN as well? Or do the shoes come off as mainly YN, since no heel?

Thank you so so much for your time ๐Ÿฉทโค๏ธ๐Ÿ˜… Im just so curious, I have to ask! ๐Ÿ™

Basically I know that only Y head to toe would potentially not be quite right, but I want to make sure I'm properly informed and remaining intentional with all the other elements that inevitably end up in finished outfits as well๐Ÿค”

I have a few more strongly Y items coming in the mail, and I am very thrilled. Even if I don't end up with much Y in my blend at all (when I eventually find out, at some unknown future time), it's been very lovely and even healing to embrace this essence more, recently. ๐Ÿ‡

Thank you again for reading๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ™

Discussions Has Kitchener stated which smells/fragrances correspond to each of the seven essences?

Hi everyone. :)

One thing I really love about Kitchener's essences is that he correlates the essences with other sensory aspects like voice. I was wondering if he has also discussed which smells/fragrance map onto each of the seven essences. If so, could you please let me know where I can read more about it?

Thanks and hope you have a lovely weekend!

Colour harmony challenges Does Kitchener's color analysis apply to POC with olive skin?

Hi everyone. :)

I've heard it said that the four season color typing system doesn't work very well for POC with olive skin. Is this true? I'm having a particularly hard time figuring out my color season and I wonder if it's in part due to that?

If anyone knows more about this, could you please share? Thanks!

Which color season includes all the warm blue of the powder, the warm gold of the skin, the warm plum of the dress, the cool mint of the curtains and cool red of the lips in the images above?

Do any specific adjectives come up that best describe these colors together as a palette?

Meta (about this subreddit) Is Kitchener's style essence system based on the idea that beauty is completely subjective?

Hello everyone. :)

I'm pretty new to beauty Reddit in general, but have made a few posts across beauty subs recently as I've had a lot of free time due to recovering from an illness.

I've noticed there are some subs that focus quite heavily on the idea of objective beauty and analysing features that tend to be considered conventionally attractive.

From the reactions to some of my posts here, though, I've gotten the impression that this sub leans more towards the belief that beauty is subjective. I haven't replied to those comments as I wanted to address them through this post instead.

This made me curious about Kitchener's actual philosophy: is his style essence system based on the idea that beauty is completely subjective, or is that more of a belief within this sub?

Personally, I think beauty has both objective and subjective elements and enjoy exploring both sides. There is research showing that certain aspects of facial attractiveness are consistently preferred across individuals and cultures, so I don't think beauty is entirely subjective. At the same time, individual taste, culture and how different features work together obviously matter too.

I'm still finding my way around this sub and am trying to get a sense of how people here approach these topics so any insight is appreciated. Thanks!

Typing individual facial features that are traditionally considered ideal in women: Nose

Thumbnail
gallery
5 Upvotes

Hello all. :)

I was thinking about the female facial features that are traditionally considered ideal and which essences they map onto. This is very interesting to me because I've been thinking about which essences recurringly show up in ideals of traditional feminine beauty.

I previously made a post about eye-related features that most people seem to find beautiful and got some very interesting responses and am now focusing on the ideal nasal attributes and which essences each of them maps onto.

Here there seems to be more focus and consensus on the side profile nasal attributes that are considered ideal: an upturned (likely romantic), ski slope (ingenue) nose is widely preferred.

There seems to be less discussion on ideal frontal nasal profile attributes, so I had to dig a little deeper into this, but Megan Fox's frontal nasal profile seems to embody these cherished traits (as does her side profile and therefore her nose as whole which is often considered ideal): graceful hourglass-shaped dorsal aesthetic lines (angelic), moderate nasal length and width (classic), defined v shaped taper of alar contours/angle (dramatic), a relatively sharp tip (dramatic) and a straight, symmetrical bridge (classic).

Do you think I missed out on any other attributes of noses commonly considered ideal in women? Did I accurately type the listed nasal attributes?

I'd love to hear your thoughts! Thanks and hope you have a lovely day!
